NO DEAL Kenny Miller

You've got to desist from your default position of shooting the messenger.

Contrary to popular belief newspapers don't print stuff like that without getting nudged in the right direction by someone who has something to gain and it's crystal clear that there's a concentrated effort afoot to make life distinctly uncomfortable for the manager..

There's been a lot of "shooting the messenger" recently. Makes discussing what's really happening very difficult.

Picture the scenario....

Both Hill & Miller get 1 year extensions. They do OK for the rest of the season, but fail to make any sort of impact next season....how long will it be before folk are complaining about giving them an extension in the 1st place. Add in the possibility that we may be restricted in bringing in more players ie. one out, one in. We may be forced to let someone with a brighter future go, rather than a tired-looking veteran.

They have ZERO sell on value, and neither have been outstanding. Work hard - yes, but lacking in end-product.

And of course, their legs could "go", almost at any time, or either/both could be injured long term, by, say, a bad tackle from a disingenuous little ocker, playing for, oh, say, Motherwell, leaving the club with one or both ends of a pantomime horse.

As for good news I'm sure if the pressure rises in the Boardroom we'll see one or two pieces of "good news" appear. I expect one item of which we'd all consider "good news" to come out soon.

Comes of years, not least those last few months, of experience. It is easier to find water in the desert than some genuine truth in much of what the Sun or DR writes. It does, sometimes, depends on the subject at hand. But here you simply have to look how the article is headlined and written to see its intention. If that's clear, the FLAK is being aimed.

Indeed yet you continue to repeat the same mistake.

Point to ponder it's seldom the author of the article who produces the headline it's the sub-editor.

How often does the anti Rangers headline contradict the article?

I take your overall point but actually it still happens more often than you'd think. Or if "contradict" is too strong a word, then 'vastly exaggerate the negative'. And sometimes they do contradict, there was one very recently but I can't recall the details now. Norris Cole posted an absolute classic from the past recently too, wherein a player from a Euro team's remarks on us were ridiculously twisted - as twisted around as the head in a famous scene from the Exorcist.

Still don't regard it a "mistake", as the article is not far off the headline. Likewise, what does it matter if the paper's sub-editor does the mischief as opposed to the reporter? The paper remains the same.

Whether there's any truth in the story remains to be seen although it baffles me that we haven't signed Miller up for next season. Arguably our best players this season and brings a wealth of experience to the team.

We need to keep the few players that are performing & replace others. Allowing Kenny to leave and then try to replace him seems totally backwards to my way of thinking.

If we renew Kenny Miller's contract, are we doing it for his playing/scoring ability or, as is often stated by younger players, his capacity as a role model. I would have thought that the wages paid for someone who is not expected to play much would be less and so Kenny himself needs to weigh up what is best for him.

If he is retained to bring on others, how long is this likely to last and as he is not playing regularly, it may be less likely that premiership club would take him later (and he would be a year older).

So we might be playing games by not offering a contract now in the hope that we can pay him less. Kenny seems keen on renewing and he probably thinks that he can do a job for us on the park. If we think that his value to us lies elsewhere, what would Kenny's reaction to that be. He has to think what is best for his future..
