Whether or not the double-header against Aberdeen is a good "baptism of fire" for any new coach remains to be seen. I'd actually say that it wouldn't be too bad if Murty navigates these games too, as any potential loss won't fall back on him (not least fan- and media-wise) as on any new gaffer. Rangers want McInnes to take over at Ibrox, as they search for Pedro Caixinha’s replacement. The Scottish Sun had suggested that Rangers would reach a deal with Aberdeen this week, as they were willing to pay compensation to land McInnes. However, Adam has said that Rangers are struggling to finance a deal for McInnes, and he has urged the board at Ibrox to take action sooner rather than later. “I’m hearing that McInnes is close, but compensation is an issue,” Adam said. “But they have to make a statement. They have the perfect time over the international break to sort it out. The more the dilly and dally over it, I’m not sure what will happen. I think it will come down to finances. “The board need to make an appointment. We understand McClaren, currently working as an advisor for Israeli club Maccabi Tel-Aviv, believes the job in Glasgow would be perfect for him in a bid to re-establish his reputation in British football after a personally bruising few years which has seen his stock as a top-level coach fall. And it has been made clear to the powers-that-be inside at Rangers that he would be willing to work under their constraints in terms of his own wage and the transfer kitty, which will be far lower than anything he experienced in England. And unlike in the case of Aberdeen's Derek McInnes, in terms of compensation, Maccabi would not be looking for a lot if anything at all. Mark Allen, Rangers’ Director of Football, knows the former Newcastle United and Middlesbrough manager from old, although reports that this would make the 56-year-old the favourite are, for the moment, wide of the mark. Of course, a double win may actually push his chances up quite a bit ... If McInnes is going to be the one I would prefer him in place before the sheep games.
