Ongoing new manager discussion and speculation

Recommended Posts

The vacum is ripe for what amounts to pish and wind, whether it be commercial (media) or essentially attention seeking.

Estimate

The statement of November 10th seemed to point towards applications being open until end of the weekof WC qualifiers (Nov 17/18)

Probable completion of short list by Nov 20/21st.

Interviews from approx. Nov 21st until around Nov 25-28th.

Thereafter: Final decision and any subsequent negotiation.

Once this selection process was embarked upon the board are right to see it through until it's conclusion.

To have binned it half way through because of a couple of results would have been inexcusable.

Maybe those who sent their applications have all not been to the taste of the DoF or Board? Then again, even though we don't know of the names who have put an application in, going by the opinion of the supporters on here or elsewhere, there is hardly any candidate mentioned on boards or in the media that would get real support from all sections. We would probably all prefer a younger, progressive and strong manager with some experience, but how many of that category are available these days?

Really?! - As great a player as he was - he has no managerial credentials to even been close to consideration.

I think I said I have no idea if he can manage but as a player he had the character I would like to see in a manager.

Is the Rangers job the best thing for someone who was in rehab for 5 weeks last year?

You can’t hold that against him BD. People come through these things and come out the other side. It shows considerable commitment and strength to do so. We all struggle at times and deal in different ways.

Anyway, for me rehab is not an issue. He can’t be discriminated against due to that. I’m not sure he would be a good appointment though. Not the required managerial experience.

I'm not holding it against him, mate. Just questioning whether he is ready for a high pressure, stressful environment. He may well be ready for that, but a person's ability to work and live under the goldfish bowl of the Rangers manager has to be taken into account.

They would have started getting applications as soon as Pedro left, and could have started compiling a short list and doing interviews almost immediately. They don't need to wait until the closing date of applications before deciding whether people are on a short list and if they decide to interview them.

I doubt your timetable is accurate but if it is then it shows a degree of incompetence.

The statement seemed to indicate the club had taken the decision that until after the WC qualifiers were over and other potential candidates may emerge,...the process wrt 'applications deadline' would remain open. ie a short-list wouldn't be completed until then and it would be likely that (further) interviews would be required after that.

But back when that statement was issued I did think it would be done and dusted prior to the AGM

Personally, I would have preferred if we had gone straight for McInnes and managed to get it over the line asap but there was always going to be a process involving the DoF, given how the Pedro appt. went and what AJ said about it.

Regardless, it'll all come down to the final judgement call and how it works out.

Regardless of who it is, we have to show some realism as to expectation levels or it'll be a continual change or two every year.
