Ongoing new manager discussion and speculation

Recommended Posts

We’re not aiming to win the league this season. According to Dougie Wright on Twitter, our average wage is 6000 a week, compared to 14000 a week at Celtic. Unless that changes, no manager could ever win the league with us.

However Aberdeen’s average wage is only 2000 a week apparently, yet they could be 12 points clear of us by the end of the week. Our target is to win the league by 2021. Finishing above Aberdeen & Hibs would be the next step on the journey, & McInnes is exactly the right manager for this step.

Leicester did it. It CAN be done. With the right appointment. I have my doubts that McInnes could do it. And that's the crux of the issue.

We aren't winning the league this or next season.

Could McInnes win the league further down the road ?......We don't know

Could he do a job now, rebuilding the squad and becoming a more consistent team?.....Yes

In coming, would it be a big blow to main competitors for 2nd place?.....Yes

Your final statement is the issue though buster. Much of the reason we have people wanting McInnes is to ensure second. Second isn't good enough... and, for clarity, I don't mean this season OR next season... but do you honestly believe that McInnes could win us the league if up against Rodgers for the next 3, 4 or 5 seasons ? I am not convinced, not at all.

We don't know if he would do a good job now, rebuilding either - better managers than McInnes have been at Rangers and Celtic and failed - just because he has been "successful" at Aberdeen where second is more than acceptable doesn't mean it is good enough for us.

The attitude of supporters worries me. It does no one any good to have such closed minds towards people who could well be managing the team in a few weeks. If Derek McInnes does become our manager, we already have supporters who are not just unconvinced but are openly hostile towards him. What does that actually achieve?

It isn't being close-minded. At least not in my opinion.

Like every other fan... if Derek McInnes is appointed today, he gets my full, unequivocal support - that doesn't mean I have to believe that he is the right person for the job. It isn't being close-minded, it's having an opinion - it's just that it is contrary to yours.

Water does turn into wine but you need other ingredients to do it. That is a managers job to produce these ingredients. There the board also have to play a huge part in that in producing the means to buy those ingredients. Just because McInnes could only take Aberdeen to second place does not mean that he can only play second fiddle all of the time. I know I was a big critic of Pedro but that was because I saw totally no structure coming in the team. McInnes has proved with Aberdeen that he can bring in a structure but he has to be given the ingredients to make the wine.

What is the structure McInnes has brought to Aberdeen ? Serious question... because I, for one, don't follow Aberdeen at all - so I have no idea what structure he has brought to them that will benefit us.

McInnes is down to 1/3 again with sky bet. He was 1/2 at 9.00 when I left work, so someone must be reading this thread lol

I put ten grand on it being him. Not sure how I will cope with the misery of McInnes being our boss but with an extra 3.3k in my pocket :ninja::D

Their football is pretty gruesome according to their own fans who for the most would be content to let him go.

That was what happened with PC too and you're right, it was counter productive. Our primary role as supporters is to support the team. The manager of Rangers should always receive the support from the fans when he's appointed, regardless of what we thought beforehand. I'm against Smith, McLeish or McInnes being our manager, but I'll support them if appointed, albeit with lowered expectations.

Right appointment and more importantly right signings. That means not wasting £3m on unfit Mexicans
