Pacific Quay Musings?

I had to listen to the radio to follow our match on Sunday and found it surprisingly enjoyable. Neil McCann, Brian Rice and, I think it was, Paul Mitchel on commentary were quite balanced and insightful. Both Rice and McCann had decent knowledge of some of the Falkirk players and their style of play and both as well as the commentator were very complimentary of Rangers and our performance and our style of play. If you'd just been transported in from outer space and had never listened to Radio Scotland before you could almost have been forgiven for thinking this was normal coverage. I can only assume this aberration was caused by the main Sportsound producers marching on Parkhead to throw sharks at the Glasgow police leaving some junior in charge. I expect normal service will resume on Thursday.

Away game coverage is ok.

Has Chris not refreshed the battery bay in the Seville (or is it Saville?) Calculator and used the PQ podcast to peddle the line that it was merely  ‘50’ fans that were in the car park. Is he inferring that the other 250 odd (clearly pictured) were members of a h-u-n sleeper cell? Can we expect Juan Ghuy to make his customary appearance by the weekend?

Peter’s puppets will swing into heightened action from this evening no matter the result for Lurgan Flopp’s charges. Put the kettle on for it.

Bully for the Bully.

It's only three, four weeks past on BBC Radio Scotland that Craig Levein was asked as to the reasoning that began his ongoing feud with Michael Stewart? Unhesitatingly, he answered stating the first day at Hearts training ground, he noted Stewart bullying young players, "shouting at young players, never accepting his own responsibility, I thought he is a bully". On Sunday evening last, BBC Scotland's Sportscene carried highlights of Rangers visit to Dingwall. The show was hosted by Jonathan Sutherland, the guests were Shaun Maloney and Michael Stewart.

Just before half time, there was a foul on Morelos by Vigurs. As the Columbian lay prostrate, Michael Gardyne leaned over and reputedly made a homophobic remark. Rangers players, James Tavenier, Connor Goldson, and Morelos all heard what was said. Immediately, the former two remonstrated with the Referee. The Rangers manager challenged the official on the pitch as he blew for half-time. Speculation has been rife in both broadcast and print media, Ross County have assured us, a club investigation will be undertaken.

The facts are three Rangers players heard the remark, the manager admits he was told of it by his players, and Ross County's boss, Kettlewell offers he knows what the reason the Referee cautioned his player, because he was present in the tunnel at half time when the action took place.

It's the third time in a calendar year that Michael Stewart has utilised BBC Scotland to vent his preferred prejudice. He went after Morelos demanding the Compliance Officer take action. He went after the then departing Rangers PR, Jim Traynor on Kenny MacIntyre's show, despite several warnings that Traynor was not present to defend himself. He finished that diatribe with, "I don't like the way Rangers do things as a club". On Sunday, he offered a different perspective. He wan't in Dingwall but confidently proclaimed, "we have one Rangers player who thinks he heard something, this should be dropped, no need for Compliance Officer involvement".

This deliberate calumny went unchallenged by the objective host. Jonathon Sutherland is on the naughty step, recently leaving the wife and son for a fellow BBC Scotland presenter, Siobhan McInness who is half his age. Shaun stared into the middle distance. Michael Stewart's actions were those of a Bully. He decided to run interference on any investigation and was not patient enough to wait on Ross County's internal investigation's findings.

Michael began the season as a member of Sellik TV. After three months, he left, or was let go? Such is the transparency in new, modern Scotland. BBC License fee payers don't need to know. I would like to know how many more times is Michael Stewart going to be allowed unchallenged to tell deliberate lies about Rangers because, "I don't like the way they do things as a club"?

It's clear that Michael Stewart is a very bitter chap.

Having said that, what kind of world are we living in when footballers insulting each other results in such a furore?  Bunch of big jessies, honestly...

Gang Hut state of mind?

It's Wednesday evening and Jane Lewis is hosting Sportsound. The topic of conversation is, "Neil". A former Sellik TV guy, Michael Stewart, a former Sellik goalkeeper, Gemma Fey, and another Sellik Blogger, John Paul Dykes. Everyone shot their mouths off about, 'Shoot the Board'. Tricky rules were employed, you cannot say, 'Green Brigade' and Neil has no surname. Any random reference to McCann and Doncaster would demand the full Sunday titles. An hour of Neil is the PQ Gang Hut state of mind.

Across 110th Street.

Thank you, another great post! After watching our game on Thursday on BT, I decided to watch another EL group humiliation from our near neighbours. Although it did not quite turn out that way, the fawning and toadying of the 2 co-commentators Craigan & Stubbs trawled the depths of desperation. Stubbs in particular spent the whole 90 mins referring to him as Neil (no surname). Every comment needed to include the word "Neil". Every panned shot to the Sellick bench showed him huddled closely with his backroom staff. Is this a new show of solidarity for LBT? "You'll never walk alone?"

Across 110th Street was also used later by Tarantino in the film "Jackie Brown". A great song. Wonder what the PQ Tarantino spin would be if we achieve 55? INGLOURIOUS BASTERDS?

Conditioning.

Now there’s a word.

‘Your grandchildren will all be Celtic fans’ was once the triumphant proclamation from the green ‘n’ grey hooped horrors. PQ have done their bit to promulgate this overly ambitious prediction of the future by trying to omit Rangers from public consciousness as far as a lack of adherence to the charter will allow. Someone, somewhere has adopted a mindset something akin to the caption on a cartoon which once adorned Chuck Colson’s office wall during his tenure as special counsel to Richard Nixon.

Unfortunately for the budding BBC social engineer, they never truly had us by the balls so our hearts and minds never had a snowball’s chance in hell of following.

And they never will.
