Franc, thank you. A top tune.

From Spring'81 until the following Spring, I was on one course after another. It was a good way to save dosh, salary into the bank with very little outgoings. The final 10 weeks was at Netheravon, completing the Anti-Tank Platoon Commanders' course. I decided I deserved a Sony Walkman, £100 from the Sony shop on the Kings Road. I bought several cassettes too, a couple of Squeeze, a couple of the Average White Band and, a Delfonics greatest hits compilation.

I returned to west Hampshire to pick up my kit and was told to report to Portsmouth. The Falkland Islands had been occupied by the Argentinian military Junta. Ironically, one of the Squeeze tapes was, 'ArgyBargy'. Three weeks on the container ship, 'Norland' and I was word perfect on Pulling Mussels from the Shell and Another Nail for my Heart. Those early Walkmans ran through batteries at an alarming rate. Fortunately, the Norwood had batteries falling out of a container.

At the end of the conflict, I was deloused on Ascension Island and the Walkman and tapes were placed into an empty ammunition box, subsequently misplaced.

I saw Squeeze live on several occasions and I thought the best was at the Usher Hall, Edinburgh on the Some Fantastic Place tour. I remember the roof near coming off when Tilbrook launched into the guitar solo on the track. I know Squeeze purists will not agree but, I thought Paul Carrack's addition provided more depth than Jools? Not just his soulful voice, I love a bit of Hammond on a track.

Great story @26th of foot

Was never a big fan of Squeeze but have just finished listening to Singles, 45 and under for the first time in years. Despite "jumping" a little during "Take Me I'm Yours", it still plays very well. Some great tracks on it to be fair.

Jools Holland has been useful for introducing some great artists via his TV show but his piano playing does my nut in.  So clichéd and predictable.

On a brighter note,I was just watching old TOTP and the Happy Mondays were followed by Soul II Soul, Transvision Vamp and then Tina Turner doing The Best.

Dance, dance, embarrassing limp, bigotry.  ?

Bo Diddley is something else.  How can someone write so many songs with similar rhythmic template, lyrical bent and overall sound but they all sound great!?

Here's one that's a wee bit slower...
