The big R says the Katic deal is done.

Very exciting deal. They’ve gone for what should be a sure bet in Goldson alongside a high potential/high risk signing in Katic. I like it. I’d love to see some more young prospects from across Europe signed before the window closes.

RANGERS Football Club is delighted to announce the signing of 21-year-old Croatian defender Nikola Katić from Slaven Belupo on a four-year deal.

The 6ft 4in former Under-21 internationalist is highly rated in his homeland and was capped for the first time by Croatia’s senior side in a friendly against Mexico in May 2017.

A towering centre-half born in Ljubuški, Katić started his football career at HNK Stolac in Bosnia and Herzegovina before moving to Neretvanac in Opuzen, Croatia, in 2014.

In February 2016 he joined Slaven Belupo in the northern city of Koprivnica, a club that finished seventh in the Croatian First Football League in 2017/18.

Katić made 34 appearances last season and for several games took on the responsibility of being captain in the absence of the experienced Vedrun Purić.

After signing his four-year contract at Ibrox today Nikola becomes the fourth Croatian to play for Rangers, following in the footsteps of Dado Pršo, Nikica Jelavić and Niko Kranjčar.

Would like to hear a verdict on the guy from Croatia. I’ve watched the highlights of about 3 of his games and tbh haven’t been overly impressed. He doesn’t come across as being as physical as I’d hope, and was utilised quite wide on the right or left of a back 3. However highlights tend to show successful attacking moves and not unsuccessful ones.

Re  Katic ... we might have struck gold, but quite a few thought the same of Cardoso 11 months ago. I really wonder what SG's opinion of Cardoso will be.

Meanwhile, ID10 has denied that we are currently looking at or are interested in Ryan Kent.

From another forum.....

Got a wee buddy in Croatia but not much to say.......

He was decent, played 2nd division here then moved to Slaven Belupo which is midtable club..media praised him always but didnt watch him enough

He plays as cb and cdm

Reckons he is a good signing though.

“While he led the entire league in aerial duels (266) he was only 19th for percentage of those duels won. For a comparison in the Scottish league last season you could look at former Rangers centre-back David Bates, who won 63.2 per cent of his headers, a mark just above Katic. His new team-mate Bruno Alves dominated with 78.68 per cent.”

i was hoping he would be far more dominant in the air. At least the stats are far better than they were for Cardoso and he’s 6 foot 4 so the potential is there to improve. Get him in the gym and on the protein shakes!

Michael O’Halloran set to complete move to Melbourne City in the next 48 hours

Interesting.

I didn't realise that transportation of miscreants to the antipodes was back in fashion.

A stormy passage on a leaky barque might be the making of him......
