The Summer 2018 Transfer Window Rumours and Deals

Recommended Posts

Rangers fans in the Transfer Tavern could be set to see one player come in, yet they could see another leave and will have to wait and see what the club decides.

New manager Steven Gerrard has been busy this summer having already secured five new additions – however, he is thought to still want to bring more into the Light Blues. The Gers have been trying to get Martin Skrtel to join them but they failed to make an offer that was deemed acceptable by Fenerbahce.

However, reports in Turkish media outlet Yeniakit are claiming that the Super Lig side are interested in Rangers striker Alfredo Morelos, and as such could be prepared to offer the Slovakia international and cash for the Colombian.

It is understood that Fenerbahce are keen to offload the 33-year-old from their wage bill, and Gerrard is thought to have made it a priority to bring him to Ibrox as he wants to build his squad around him.

And while a move for Skrtel could well be on, it’s not all good news for Rangers fans, as losing the influential Morelos would no doubt leave a gaping hole in their forward ranks ahead of the new season.

Landlord’s Verdict: It remains to be seen if whether Rangers will entertain the possibility of a deal, as they have recently completed the signing of Nikola Katic, with Connor Goldson joining him in the last few hours.

The Gers did reject offers for Morelos last winter, yet Gerrard could be tempted to accept a bid for him now, while the locals in the bar are split as to whether they should just go for a cash sum, or indeed take Skrtel as well.

Only time will tell whether a move involving one, both, or neither player does indeed take place.

Latest to allegedly be on Gerrard's radar is Liverpool full back Jon Flanagan who has apparently recently been released. Yahoos also allegedly interested. Flanagan made his breakthrough into the first team Under Rodgers.

Would hate to see wee Morelos leave. I'd say he's the best player alongside Candeias from the Caixinha crop. 18 or 19 goals scored for us last season and providing he improves on his finishing that could be even more next season. He was on fire at the beginning of last season but I personally think his form dipped because he got carried away with all the talk of clubs willing to pay £10m for him. Got to his head basically.

The guy has obviously missed quite a few sitters but I think he could thrive under Gerrard providing he stops acting like a petulant little child at times.

And I definitely don't want a 21 year old swapped for a 33 year old. The Skrtel boat has sailed, we got our central defenders in.

Exactly. It would be a terrible deal to swap a 21-year-old with his footballing career ahead of him for a 33-year-old who is likely to retire in the next 3 or 4 years. It would be a bad deal.

Plus, it hasn't exactly worked out well for us in the past when signing over 30s. The key is youth. Let us not forget flops like Joey Barton and Philippe Senderos, both big names who did absolutely nothing for us when they came to Rangers.

Might have considered it if they wanted to give us Skrtel and £10 million weeks ago but not now. Not only do we now have our younger CB's we don't have the time to replace Morelos and his value is only likely to increase. He can always be moved on for big money at a more convenient time.

23 hours have changed Rangers

In the past 24 hours, 23 hours in fact between the pair, Rangers have instantly solved the defensive crisis that has plagued the club since Carlos Bocanegra and Dorin Goian left.

In one fell swoop, as Ibrox Noise promised you, Connor Goldson was added to yesterday’s capture of Nikola Katic and Steven Gerrard’s Rangers defence was completed.

And today we hear further information that Turkish giants Fenerbahce have offered former Rangers target Martin Skrtel along with cash for wantaway striker Alfredo Morelos.

Naturally Skrtel’s wages, at a reported £50K+ are just too high, but with a cash deal for the Colombian striker, could Rangers be looking at using part of that fee to help fund the Slovakian’s wages?

Gerrard dearly wants Skrtel, and was more than a touch disappointed to seemingly miss out on him a number of weeks ago, and this move from the Turks could well grant him his wish.

But, regardless, the last 23 hours have instantly resolved the lack of centre backs worth a damn at Ibrox – we now have a Croatian international, and a top class English CB whose former fans were devastated at losing.

That is Gerrard’s present defence, and we are quite happy with it.

But is the former Liverpool stopper Skrtel about to make an unexpected reappearance and give Stevie the option of a back three?

Could a back three finally convert James Tavernier and Declan John into the flying wingbacks they are probably more suited to being?

It’s good times at Ibrox now – we have a spine – we just lack the quality up front – while we were the top scorers in the SPL, few would claim to have been completely happy with Morelos, Cummings, Miller and Herrera.

But that’s a discussion for another day – we finally have a backline to be proud of – Allan McGregor, Nikola Katic, Connor Goldson and maybe Martin Skrtel. Let's Go
