Cardoso has had his contract terminated.

Another £1.3m plus wages plus termination fee down the drain.  A poor show.

So that was right from pod few weeks ago, which makes Waghorn sell on even more baffling

Or perhaps it isn’t really true & we are trying to save face......

The probability of that would depend on who gave you the info.

Why are we automatically assuming there will be a termination fee that we will have paid to the player?

I dont believe there should be, as the player knows he wont get any game time this season as he isnt in the plans, and if he wants to play football he has to move on. Terminating his contract allows him to negotiate freely to get a sign-on fee elsewhere and a decent wage as there is no fee to pay to us.

Either we hold on to him for a fee and keep paying his wages in the meantime, or he gets to leave for free, we get no fee but dont need to pay him anymore wages. That works for both parties.

Usually when there is a mutual termination that means the player has a deal lined up with another club but they dont want to have to negotiate with us over a fee.

If it turns out we have paid him to leave, it will show we have learned absolutely nothing about these deals since the Martin Bain era.

Paper talk of a second 300K bid going in for Lafferty.

If true, it would be a waste of time, we'll get the same response.

If Gerrard wants him in, we'd be better to make an offer that at least has a chance, around 450-550K.

Lafferty was signed on a free transfer after being released by Norwich (??).....What makes him worth £450k+???

He wasn't particularly outstanding with out before, why should that be any different now??

Last season, Lafferty started 36 games (League and Cup) and scored 19 goals.

ie. he scores goals at this level, didn't have any significant injuries and you know what you are getting.

Those goals include 3 in the league against Celtic (one in a significant 4-0 win), which was more than we as a team scored against them in 5 matches.

I think that merits 500K if the manager wants the player.

There is an argument regards age, lack of sell-on value and if we could source a younger 'better player' for a price we could afford then fair enough.

That's all well & good in a team with Hearts expectations.  However, we have seen time & time again, players who have been doing well, come into a Rangers team & fail miserably (for many reasons).

£200-300k is a good offer for a player like Lafferty, who is in his last years of contract, and playing for a team like Hearts.  They simply don't have the clout to demand more.
