None of them spent money we didnt have. Universal credits for most of the country for example.

New labour was like a ceasar throwing gold coins to the masses.

We must never forget that or allow it again.

utter guph.....the national debt now is twice what it was in 2010

and there's nothing the tories can do about because they've sold off other people's assets. Only the NHS is left and they're doing their best to flog that off.

Debt is harder to fix the further you get into it.

Western society/economics relies heavily on debt, unfortunately.  There are many contributory factors but if people are raised correctly and take responsibility for themselves they are less likely to get into debt.  The bankers didn't force people to take out loans at gunpoint.

I'm just glad I have a rigidly frugal nature (Sunday school and tight relatives helped).

I suppose the Tories could just have refused to borrow and instead kept the national debt at 2010 levels. Of course in order to finance the debt Labour incurred to rescue our banking system, that would have meant virtually no public spending these last eight years. Or the Tories could have imposed in 2010 the sort of austerity required to maintain a steady debt, instead of phasing it in over several years and allowing the economy to recover. But that wouldn't have been acceptable to anyone, so an increasing debt that grew ever more slowly until now it is more or less stable might not have been such a bad idea after all.

'Real Labour'  :D  they're two cheeks of the same arse.

FWIW I think it's beyond a disgrace that our jails aren't crammed full of bankers, politicians and accountants!
