We don't live in a vacuum and are a reflection of our times.  To say our support is divided on political grounds is true of every support anywhere. I don't see why we can't have a civilised discussion relating to the thread.  For what it's worth I believe there are more serious issues around than the one we are discussing.

Yes, I know other supports are divided on political issues, but we appear to be a supporters group that puts political conditions on who else can be a real Rangers supporter.

On your second point, I agree.  I actually thought we were debating some of the more important points until this became totally derailed by some mindless nonsense.

There have always been divisions and majority and minority opinions.  I used to be in the minority as a left wing socialist and fought my corner like a lion.  It makes no difference to the fact we are all Rangers supporters, nor should it.

I think you have to take into account the 2014 referendum, the way social media has effected debate which leads on to and contributes to an increasingly polarised society (many places).

I think the above has had a marked effect  on current attitudes, rhetoric, situations and the in your face nature of them.........in many different strands of society, concerning different groups and issues.

Not to mention, the exploitation by interested parties (eg. lobby groups) to use new technologies to influence matters in a way that can often contribute to polarisation. Easy access to target markets for agitation.

To get back a bit on track about MP's not wanting to admit they are Rangers fans I think Rangers fans are far more conservative ( can I say that?:D)  If you look at Airports or even just in the street then there are far more people wearing Celtic shirts. I don't believe for one moment that they are more passionate about their team but they seem to want to flaunt it more.

I don't know if it is a safety thing but I would think twice about walking about Glasgow outwith  match day in a Rangers top.

So why is Scottish nationalism deemed bad, yet British nationalism is good (certainly on these pages...)???

I'll hazard a guess at the SNP is perceived as being more pro-republican in 2018 than it was in say, 2014.

Defender of the Faith and all that stuff Darthter. People are genuinely alarmed at the prospect of the increased marginalisation of Protestantism. Whilst secularism is on the rise and could be argued to have some benefits, some people believe that Catholicism, in Scotland at least, will never stand by idly and allow any power and influence it has to dwindle away.

Ask yourself why the SNP have never actively sought to start a national debate about ending publicly funded segregation of our children within the school system. The SNP are all about 'nation building' in their language, yet they never seem to want to mention that particular 'elephant in the room'.

I wonder why that is? (That's rhetorical btw) and for the record, I don't have a problem with RC's having their own education system - let them pay for it themselves.

I can just imagine the uproar now from some of the political appointees in public service if they had the gumption to do so but I won't hold my breath.

British nationalism is a concept that is rather less well defined. It has its issues and pitfalls as well but this could turn into an essay if I was to go there too.

That's because they have shirts to wear.

It's hard to tell cos SNP voting Bears rarely admit it amongst Rangers fans.

I've only met two who have admitted it openly and they only go to a couple of games a season and are fairweather fans.

I'd say it's nearer 95/5.

So your 90/10 figure was plucked out of thin air. Here was me thinking it was based on actual polling or official figures. Silly me

TBH I don't give a toss about politics, have no interest in the Orange Order even though my son plays in an flute band, have no religious calling, couldn't care less about Bobby Sands being deid and so on.

Have a loathing for cowards who cover their faces during so called parades etc..

I support Rangers as a football club and have no objections to who we sign as long as we can get back to being a top club again.
