Celtic Boys Club manager 'stuffed banknotes in boy's mouth'

Recommended Posts

Anyone who is expecting Celtc FC to face any repercussions for the cover up of child abuse had better be prepared for disappointment.

It won't happen.

As far as the 'Celtc minded' are concerned, the reputation of their club comes before justice for people who were sexually abused.  As unbelievable and disgusting as that is, that's the way their pea brains work.

And the Scottish authorities will be happy to go along with their wishes.

Sadly I agree, Scotlands' shame, the Scottish Government, the Scottish gutter press and Scottish football should all hang their heads in shame!.

Regards this everything points back to one common denominator, IMO, Rome(Vatican city) where a being exists in perpetuity lording over trillions of brainwashed individuals and until this fact is accepted the abusing of children by his followers and disciples, WILL continue for evermore.

Celtic Boys Club beast Jim Torbett 'convinced Celtic to sign victim so abuse could continue'

Legal experts are calling for Celtic FC to compensate victims like Kenny Campbell and say the boys club was linked with the senior side.

Smiling smugly with his young charges, this is Celtic Boys Club beast Jim Torbett during the period when he was abusing children.

The photo, which was taken about 1987, shows that Torbett had easy access to Celtic Park.

He is posing with a Celtic Boys Club team on the pitch in front of the main stand and the press box.

The photo underlines the way the boys club – founded by Torbett in 1966 – operated hand-in-glove with Celtic FC.

And it dismisses any suggestion that the two were not linked, according to legal experts who are calling for the club to compensate victims.

One of Torbett’s young victims claims the pervert used his influence to get Celtic FC to sign him so he would stay in Glasgow and the abuse could continue.

Kenny Campbell said Dundee United were interested in signing him. But Torbett stepped in to keep him within his grasp.

Kenny, now 46, said: “When I think about it now, it is clear it was a tactic to allow me to stay in Glasgow, where Torbett could continue to abuse me.”

In the photo, Torbett, who is in the far left of the back row, looks every inch the sports coach, with his blazer and flannel trousers.

While he smiles for the camera, his young victim Kenny is in the front row, third from left.

There is no suggestion anyone else in the photo was being abused or was guilty of any wrongdoing.

Kenny gave evidence at Torbett’s trial last month at the High Court in Glasgow. The paedophile, 71, was jailed for six years after being convicted of abusing him and two other boys between August 1986 and August 1994.

The pervert was previously jailed for two years in 1998 for abusing three Celtic Boys Club players between 1967 and 1974.

Victims and their families have described Celtic’s response to Torbett’s court case as “disgusting”.

They believe the club are trying to distance themselves from the boys club which was set up with the aim of producing Celtic stars of the future.

Kenny, now a dad and grandad, said: “The photo shows how much power Torbett had at Celtic Park. He was always at the ground and had a huge influence with the big noises.”

Kenny said Torbett continued to abuse him after he signed for “big Celtic”. The victim claimed the beast was a regular at Parkhead.

There is no doubt in Kenny’s mind that Torbett stepped in when Dundee Utd wanted to sign him on a S-form.

He said: “There were scouts watching me during a game for the boys club. I had a great game that day and everything went right.

“I was told Dundee United wanted me and were set to offer an S-form contract. They were a successful club at the time. When the offer came, I was happy. But suddenly I was told I had been selected to do a trial for big Celtic.

“There was another boy there who was taking part in the match and we both played the same position.

“Torbett recommended me to big Celtic after the game. I was overjoyed. Thinking back, it is clear to me the other boy was the better player by a distance. But I was signed on S-forms by (then Celtic manager) Billy McNeill.

“I was still being abused by Torbett after that, right up until I was 17. The abuse happened at Torbett’s flat. It was like a ritual. He convinced me that we weren’t doing anything wrong.”

Kenny’s lawyer Laura Connor, a partner with Thompsons Solicitors, said: “The idea that Celtic Boys Club and Celtic Football Club were not connected is clearly nonsense.

“No child that played for the boys club or their parents were in any doubt the two institutions were closely linked.

"It is time that Celtic FC properly compensated Kenny, who was abused on their watch.”

Thompsons are representing 11 people who claim they were abused at Celtic Boys Club.

The trial last month heard how Torbett was ordered to leave by Celtic in the 70s. But he was brought back in, allowing him to abuse new victims.

When the boys club celebrated 21 years in 1987, the then Celtic FC chairman Jack McGinn wrote: “Celtic Boys Club have earned a very good reputation as junior ambassadors of Celtic Football Club.”

As Celtic manager, McNeill wrote: “These young men are, and always have been, fine ambassadors for this club.”

Kevin Kelly was a board member of Celtic FC in 1987 and a future chairman of the club. As boys’ club president in 1987, he wrote: “It is imperative that Celtic Boys Club continue to produce players of the highest quality for the future of Celtic.”

Last night, Celtic FC declined to comment.

But following Torbett’s conviction, they said: “Celtic Football Club wish to express our deep regret that the incidents took place and sympathy for the victims who suffered abuse.

Although Celtic Football Club are an entirely separate organisation, we have always taken these allegations extremely seriously because of our historic contacts with Celtic Boys Club.”
