Wind Energy - not always what it seems

I choose my words carefully and always make sure the description actually fits unlike your generally repetitive and inaccurate scattergun of abuse.

Of course you do, you’re a paragon of fairness and wisdom. Where would we be without you?

Could contradictory wind be harnessed as an energy source ?

Maybe this is why a Captain of Industry spends his life patrolling a football messageboard.

#Means2anEnd

:D

Is that an inferiority complex I see before me? The old chip irritating the shoulder this morning perhaps? ?

Or are you inferring that football forums should be the exclusive domain of no marks like Buster? Is that football or football forums in general or Gersnet in particular? Either way it looks like stunning arrogance from someone with so little to justify it? See ya.

No, what you see is partly what you infer to us (Captain of Industry) and partly what you do (patrol a football messageboard for much of your day)........I guess it's just another contradiction.

As a proud no-mark punter, I also patrol the boards :D

I think his complaint is simply that the SNP's energy policy is an utter farce and the ones paying the price for their idiocy are the country's poor and the one's benefiting are the multi-millionaires and billionaires same as their idiotic education policy is at the expense of Scotland's poorest to the benefit of Europe's richest.

The policy isn't a joke - it is delivery 25% of UK capacity!!!!

The plan is to get rid of fossil & nuclear full power station & rely 100% on renewable sources - surely that's a good thing???

The problem comes in the change over.  The Govt & energy providers MUST be certain that they can provide 100% energy requirement, 100% of the time.  Until that happens, they can't shut down the more traditional power plants.  Now, the Energy providers are tasked with producing 100% renewable energy, and that is being achieved more & more often, but as a result of not being able to reduce the output of the power stations, the result is an excess of power & unfortunately the power companies need to be compensated for that - after all, they have fulfilled their part of the deal.

Once the 100% of 100% target has been reached, the traditional power plants can be shut down & the renewable energy companies will no longer be receiving compensation.  It is the ONLY way to transition from fossil/nuclear power to renewable.

As for it being a joke...it is receiving praise!!!

Of course it's a joke, it doesn't deliver 25% of our needs 100% of the time nothing like it.  https://fullfact.org/economy/about-15-uks-electricity-comes-wind/

Wind power is unpredictable and cannot provide 100% of our energy needs whatever the fantasists tell you.

You and your fellow Nats do know that when the sun shines and the wind is nowhere to be seen or the wind blows too hard and the windmills have to shut down that we have to import non renewable electricity from England?

Most of our hydro power takes more energy to make than it produces.

Until its possible to store electricity economically then wind power on its own is nothing but a joke.

Rather than pollute the entire countryside with giant ugly steel poles and rotors what should have happened is half a dozen massive wind farms (predominantly on the western side of the country) and half a dozen giant dams (sea lochs ideally) that way wind power is reliable. Also there should be a few massive tidal barrages because the tide comes in and goes out twice a day every day irrespective if the sun is shining or the wind is blowing.

Strange to see there are still people who think the current wind power strategy will somehow save the planet. I guess diversions are just addictive to some. I mean, look around you and point to where the planet is being returned to its natural condition.

Or that ScotGov investment in wind energy has been more than a bribe to foreign wind farmers like the Swedish Vattenfall, who feed the Swedish tax exchequer rather than our own. It might have been more rewarding to invest in a wind energy industry of our own that might at least have earned export dollars while sucking guilt money out of other countries.

FS nails it in post #28. Windfarms need to be on a massive industrial scale and as far offshore as you can technically reach. Erecting a few turbines on a hillside because it benefits the landowner and the turbine installer isn't saving a single coral reef and is a colossal waste of taxpayer money. But at least it allows the SNP to crow about something and provides an opportunity for Nikla to flaunt her caring, planet-saving credentials.

This thread has nothing to do with the pros and cons of wind energy, its just the tedious daily attack on the SNP or Scottish Government or Independence or YES campaign.

That's pretty much you and your fellow Nats stock response when faced with the reality as opposed to the fantasy of SNP policy though.
