It's not a coincidence that the more we're informed about mental health issues, the suicide rate amongst men rises and prescription drug use goes up.

Stiff upper lip?  What doesn't kill you makes you stronger?  Sticks and stones...?

It's certainly an interesting subject.  I suspect it is correlation and causation, rather than one or the other.

In the modern era, (Western) men have very little to believe in.

I was always told, "There's always someone worse off than you.", when I was a kid.  A good thing to remember when things aren't going well.

You can't create a generation of entitled, disrespectful, self-centred young people with neither resilience nor humility and expect them to be able to "man up".

A lot of the most admirable aspects of Presbyterianism seem to being disregarded...resilience, thrift, taking responsibility, work ethic and steadfastness.

One wonders who can possibly benefit from a Britain full of whining jessies (who are signed off work with depression and in insurmountable debt)?

do think though, and could be entirely wrong, that single parent households also have a hand in young men not having a solid role model to build on.

I have that belief too as I feel children need both parents in upbringing.

I also believe that in same gender marriages/partnerships children are also disadvantaged in not having father & mother upbringing.

Sadly today too many children are victims of unwanted pregnancies and can also suffer.
