That interview could be taken as a a criticism of the board, the same board he has praised up till now. He also seems to be trying to extradite himself from some of his signings.

An important aspect of SG's mindset has to be real belief that he can achieve what he's being tasked to do.

As a player it was never a problem for him but this is now a very different set of responsibilities with limits to how he can effect things.

Expectations are way beyond current reality and what that does is create a next to impossible environment to take the time necessary to develop something that reaches the set goals in a reasonable time frame.

Rangers and Celtic both want 12-goal striker Fran Sol

Glasgow Rangers are reportedly keen to bring the striker to Ibrox in January, but they face plenty of competition for his signature.

Steven Gerrard's search for a new striker has seen Rangers eye up a potential move for Fran Sol, according to the Sunday People (16/12; page 49), but the Gers will have to see off competition from a number of rivals for his signature.

Sol has enjoyed a remarkable season in the Eredivisie, scoring 12 goals in just 16 appearances for Willem II. Meanwhile at Ibrox, although Alfredo Morelos has been sensational for much of the campaign, Gerrard does not have the depth up front that he would like.

However, The Sunday People (16/12; page 49) adds that Celtic, Derby County and Swansea City are also watching the 26-year-old who spent around 12 years on Real Madrid's books at the start of his career.

I can remember when the old centre forwards would have twentysomething goals by Christmas and no clubs would bat an eyelid now someone scores a dozen and all are interested I wonder what it would be like if there where still scorers like Forrest,  McGraw or McBride still in their pomp .

I note growing criticism from opposition supporters, to our proposed re-signing of Steve Davis.

The Yahoos are anxious to point out, specifically he has not started a Premiership game this season, and generally re-signings do not work. I suspect they are ignoring the impact and penetration provided when they re-signed Jim Torbet?

Even better, Willie Thornton, Lawrie Reilly and Willie Bauld.
