Jermain Defoe to Rangers – Gers agree 18-month loan deal with Bournemouth

RANGERS have reportedly pulled off a stunning loan swoop for Jermain Defoe.

Ibrox boss Steven Gerrard wanted to sign his former England team-mate in the summer but was priced out of a move.

But Gers were put on red alert last night after it emerged the 36-year-old was set to quit Bournemouth.

And now Sky Sports are reporting that an 18-month loan deal has been agreed which will see Defoe spend the next season-and-a-half at Ibrox.

It’s claimed that the Cherries will have two recall options in summer 2019 and January 2020.

Defoe joined Bournemouth in 2017 after a blistering spell at Sunderland where he bagged 37 goals in two seasons.

But the ex-Spurs and Portsmouth hitman has struggled to sustain a regular run in Eddie Howe’s team, finding the net just four times.

Howe was reluctant to see him go, but understands his desire to play regular football.

It's understood Bournemouth will pay a chunk of his £65,000-a-week salary after sanctioning the move.

Meanwhile Southampton boss Ralph Hasenhuttl has confirmed Steven Davis could rejoin Rangers within days.

Ah, that borders on no man being an island, but I think we may have unearthed a treasure in Jermain?

As long as he is not Donne....and his tempo is more presto than largo
