[FT] Rapid Vienna 1 - 0 Rangers

Recommended Posts

2 defeats in 14 ... quite a few games against sides from Eastern Europe. I remember earliest exits against Sparta Prague, Steaua, Maribor and others before we had 4 games under our belt.

These teams might be "poor" in their league, compared to what we face in Scotland though ...

Anyway. I can see some more changes in January and next summer, which will make us even better. Whether we'll make the first qualifying round next summer is another matter, but for now, SG has a lot of credit on his side.

We had the beating of rapid tonight but lacked a cutting edge as seems to be the case recently.

We really need to be more direct in our attacking play and drive through the centre of defences rather than always taking the wide route.

While waiting for a chat, I saw about 10 mins of the Scum's game vs. Salzburg. The latter are through already, but they pummel them from pillar to post like there is no tomorrow. A class and a half better than anything we faced ...

You just hope Leipzig beats Rosenborg and send them tumbling out as well ...

We've had a good run in Europe, better than anyone could ever have imagined at the start of the season.

I never expected a win tonight, now we are out it's time to concentrate on domestic football, it's just wrong to start blaming individual players tonight, upwards and onwords.

Europe has been a fantastic distraction but it has also helped paper over the cracks in our domestic form. When you consider we are 1pt better off than we were at this time last year it shows how erratic we have been.

We need to attempt to find a settled XI and stick with it. IMO squad rotation can only work with teams that have played together for a while and have a recognisable style of play.

Last year we never had any European matches, this new squad has been playing 2 games a week since the start of the season, let's see how we do now we have no European matches!

Just got back to the hotel.  I thought we looked like we were going to win at the start of the 2nd half.  Our lack of clinical passing and finishing put paid to that.

These disappointments just keep coming.

The Austrian fans are an odd bunch.

Yeh Salzburg are on a different planet to Rapid, 25 points ahead of them after only 17 games.

It does. Europe hasn’t helped, but it doesn’t excuse the number of points we’ve dropped.
