Ovie Ejaria: Returns To Liverpool

Loan deals are essential given the financial problems and Pedro crashing £10m and warburton before him. But kids out of an academy irrespective of the size of club handling Scottish cloggers who are fit and more suited to a life in the Royal Marines isn’t a good solution. I think we need to get more mature and more physical players if they are loans. The success rate is poor but it can work if the selection is better and we do still need them. Too often it seems an experiment by the lender to see how good their kids are and more often than not they find out at our expense.

ejaria had a very good start to the season btw but it seems he’s been found out mentally and may regret his decision. By and large he did well for us and played a major role in qualifying us for EL. To say he was a complete failure is not correct.

Loan deals cost money and deliver poor returns. They also stifle owned talent.

Docherty and mccrorie could have been playing instead of ejaria.

Nevermind halliday and jack.

Steven davis was the last one to look worth the bother.

Everything costs money. Ejaria and Kent played as big a role as any in the EL campaign. Even Worral did a turn. We’d all prefer our own players but look how much it costs when it doesn’t work out. We’ve squandered many millions on duff signings and pay offs. It needs to be the right loanee and by and large we have not done that well enough.

Agree. For example, despite a few decent showings at the start of the season Coulibaly has offered very little and it makes you wonder what McCrorie could have done during that period.

It's an odd one, as a fan.  Ejaria and Coulibaly have the talent but McCrorie and Docherty have the effort.

I think the best teams are a good mix of both.  You won't win with just effort and the same goes for talent.

The logic goes that you use the loan system to bring in an 'unafforadble' (to buy) level of talent and if you strike up a relationship with a 'big club' then all the better.

Sounds fine but Rangers are a big club with expectation levels probably at a higher level than current reality.

So what tends to happen is young kids from Arsenal, Spurs, Liverpool, etc, come up here and can't hack it.

Ability

Physicality

Mentally

We won't get their top talents wrt ability, eg. Harry Wilson goes to Derby.

So you end up getting good but not exceptional talent that are making their way in the game. The fact they wear the shirt of a big club like Arsenal or Liverpool sits well with perception but doesn't actually mean a great deal when they haven't yet played for the first team.

How many of those are going to cope with demands at Ibrox and perform consistently ?

I'd say less than 15%.

I think the actual 'hitrate' for this logic being a success will be higher at clubs without such expectation.

Ejaria is a different player from the other 4 mentioned and brought something to the team that they wouldn't have done.
