Rangers and BBC Scotland - Jim Traynor Interview

Dear Member,

Club 1872 commented yesterday on the disparity in coverage and comment on the issue of unacceptable behaviour but as our members and the wider fanbase are aware, there has been an ongoing issue with BBC Scotland for a much longer period of time.

In discussions with Rangers on this topic we became aware that, as recently as this week, BBC Scotland had extensively edited an interview with Rangers spokesperson, Jim Traynor, which diluted the club’s position on the extent of the ongoing problem with Pacific Quay. We felt it would be helpful for supporters to hear more about the club’s position and what would have been articulated had BBC Scotland delivered a properly balanced news report on the subject.

You can view an interview with Jim Traynor on the subject here:

Supporters have a role to play in ensuring that BBC Scotland start to treat our club fairly. We recently issued media guidance to help in this regard, and the coverage of Steve Clarke and Kris Boyd’s comments has only further illustrated the deep seated issue with elements of the Scottish media and particularly BBC Scotland.

We will continue to fight the supporters’ corner in these matters but the more individual supporters who assist us, the more successful those efforts will be.

Issued by Supporters Voice Limited, a Club 1872 company

Jim’s interview with @BBCSotland lasted 25 mins. They edited that down to 9 secs to support their on going agenda against Rangers

It is a good interview with JT which shows the problems we’ve got with BBC PQ.

I’d suggest it is mostly the pond life employed at PQ that are the problem & their personal anti Rangers agendas

Might be best to impose a complete ban on BBCPQ altogether. That might get their hierarchy down south involved which would hopefully result in the removal of certain individuals responsible for the current status quo

If Traynor gave a 25 minute interview then there must be a transcript of that full interview somewhere. Either Rangers (or Traynor himself) or the BBC will retain a copy or copies. So in the interests of fairness and of seeing what was asked and what was said (and what was selectively edited to suit the BBC agenda) why can't that transcript be released?

Perhaps a couple of Bears with aspirations of an acting career might choose to take the roles of the BBC and Traynor and simply read the transcript out in full - highlighting and putting into context the 9 seconds that was allowed into the public domain - on Rangers TV or on various Rangers podcasts. We can call it performance art and I expect it will be very enlightening.

If the BBC won't publish it in full then we should. And let their journalistic integrity try and stop us!

This is good. And welcome. It should be a regular feature.

Surely Rangers, the club, has the clout to have this picked up by a rival (or just fair) broadcaster? To sit and go through all of the incidents.

And then the next step. Discuss the why this is happening and being allowed to happen?

Good to see 'follow-up' from the Stewart Robertson interview (RTV).

However, in an ideal world it wouldn't be Jim Traynor with the delivery.

We gave him his first job (contract) in PR and what we've had in return is very much a beginner whose style is so ingrained it won't change.

I'd much rather have a combative lawyer who knew his stuff but boxed clever.

I appreciate that may be costly but how much do we want this sorted.

Exactly. Its a business that has a turnover towards £50m. Existing on brand and image. Board members recently put up £11m of their own money.

That's a huge investment to have tarnished on an almost daily basis by a couple of silly buggers at the BBC. I would expect to see it protected as such.
