The Spring & Summer 2019 Transfer Rumours Thread

Recommended Posts

Gerard knows infinitely more about football than any of us ever will and has the added advantage of seeing Davis in training and knows his current and potential fitness levels so I  will trust his judgment.

Younger players with a sell on value would obviously be better but younger players of that quality or potential quality won’t come cheap and probably have to be actually developed to that level.

We have a board and probably a fan base strongly focused on stopping 10 iar which necessitates having that kind of experience and quality now not later.

He has been better last few games but shouldn’t we be looking at younger players?

Preferably, yes, but a few experienced heads will be crucial.

McGregor has made a big difference this season.

Yes he does but starting him at Kilmarnock in January was a bad error.

Filling a team with experience is one thing, filling it with quality is another.

Too many of the veterans we sign are past their sell by date and end up injured or offering relatively little.

Past quality ain't any use to use, eg. we got Davis and Defoe to try and maintain and increase the challenge this season, it backfired.

McCrorie should have played at Rugby Park, not Davis.

We will just have to wait until the transfer window opens to see what money is available by that time both Gerrard and McAllister will have had a season to assess the many weaknesses in our team and they will hope to address the gap which is still as big as ever .

IMHO, SG far too often employs the 4-3-3 no matter what instead of playing e.g. Defoe and/or Lafferty next to Morelos. Given that we almost always play two grafters in midfield, we could easily have switched to three at the back and put one more player either u front or into midfield. Sadly enough, these last two games will be another sample of how 4-3-3 can work ... but for that to be the case, e.g. Arfield has to get into the right positions and put the chances away as well as the opposition play more open than what Accies, Dundee, Killie and Co. usually do.

Injury can happen to every player and it is a tragedy that Murphy wrecked his knee on plastic turf and Dorrans never got going. Since we will have both next season ... and I reckon they can have a similar impact as Arfield, the addition of Davis for no fee and probably rather moderate wages is okay.

Defoe has been paying back his wages on a rather alarming rate ... Lafferty IMHO is just a victim of the tactics rather than anything else. The again, you`d have to ask SG why he is barely used after being so vigorously chased by him.

As important as new and better players will be for next season, we also need to see our manager developing his tactical and strategic leadership. I think he will.

...... and at every other park as well.

If Davis continues to improve, the midfield should be McCrorie, Davis and whoever else you like. Kamara and/or A N Other.

For me the litmus test for Davis is to be able to control the midfield against Celtic at Ibrox.
