It will be very interesting to see who we look to bring in now

If we do look to bring someone in there. We are already overloaded with players in the position. Arfield, Ojo, Jones, Hastie, Stewart, Murphy. Could even add Docherty and Middleton to that list. You’re talking 6 players players for two positions. If Murphy gets fit he could be a big player. You feel like a broken record saying that with the players we’ve had in the last couple of years at this club but surely he can do it.

In terms of the question of another signing in general, it is surely dependent on outgoings. Shifting Dorrans and Grezda would free up a huge amount of wage money.

The signing of Grezda for significant money looks like a huge punt in the dark. I hope we won’t be seeing that again. The current regime have had a long time now to properly assess recruitment targets.

Andrew Dallas is on trial with Cambridge .

That is surprising, he has been a promising player. He was speaking of being open to a loan move only 5 days ago so maybe it’s a trial with a view to moving on loan. He’s already featured for them in a friendly.

The other thing to remember is that our formation is rarely symmetrical these days.  I think the reason there's confusion about whether it's 4-3-2-1 or 4-3-3 is because it's both.

In the games against Marseille and St Jo's at home, we played with width on the left side and narrow on the right.  We then changed this at half time to swap where the width was.  We tried this against Newcastle too but they had packed the midfield so tightly (after our goal) that neither worked with width so we then went very narrow.  The fact we can do this with each side operating almost independently of the other bodes we'll for us.  However it requires a lot of discipline defensively, especially on the side operating wide as it's too easy to be caught on the break on that side.  Newcastle spotted this and tried to play directly in behind Barisic.  Thankfully for us their passing wasn't so effective but against better opposition it will be and we will have to be prepared for this.

Gaffer  -when did we play Newcastle? Was it behind closed doors?

What we need is the type of player who can put our players in with a goalscoring chance with good old fashioned passing,  the little simple pass that leaves defenders for dead

Totally agree @compo  I think we’ve lacked an expert at the killer through ball for some time, especially in the attacking midfield positions.
