Fernando Ricksen fears 'time is ticking away'

Recommended Posts

He has done well fighting a disease for 6 years which has an average life expectancy of 14 months. He isn’t in pain, yet in some ways MND is a living death. Frightening stuff as anybody could develop this untreatable illness.

Just awful and difficult to watch. The admiration we all share for Fernando is without doubt. The strength he shows is an inspiration. What a horrible illness that strips him of his dignity and physical ability, while his brain remains lucid and alert.

Compassion yes but admiration for him in admitting that he knows, in his still active brain, what is coming.

A hard player and a good man.

I am afraid he wasn't always a good man. In fact more of a ned in his younger days.

He was on a Dutch TV interview this week and he can virtually do nothing but blink his eyes. Breathing is becoming more difficult for him and he is being fed via tubes into his stomach. Horrible when you think that his brain is still 100% but is a prisoner in a body that won't work. A horrible slow death. The quicker they can find a cure for it the better. It won't help him anymore but hopefully people in the future.

When any person in this condition I think it makes a case for assisted dying let's be honest you wouldn't let an animal suffer like this so why let a person suffer .
