Rangers place above Celtic in Global Club Soccer Rankings

Celtic and Rangers have been given their official rankings by Global Club Soccer - and it's difficult viewing for Hoops supporters despite an historic treble Treble.

Steven Gerrard's Light Blues are positioned 14 places above their rivals on the list by analytics site FiveThirtyEight.

The statistics website takes into consideration how strong the league is in each country, the projected number of goals for and against and transfer market values.

And despite Neil Lennon's men finishing what Brendan Rodgers started last season by securing silverware, their Ibrox counterparts reign supreme in the statistics battle.

Gers have a 1.9 average goal rating with a 1.1 defensive average and finish up in 92nd.

Meanwhile Celts have a 1.6 average goal rating with a 0.9 defensive average and sit in 106th.

Both clubs beat out English Premier League new boys Norwich City and Aston Villa as well as the likes of Boca Juniors and River Plate.

Man City top the list with an average goal rating of 3.0 and a defensive average of just 0.2.

In Scottish terms, Kilmarnock are the closest challengers all the way back in 303rd place while fourth placed Aberdeen are 343rd.

Dundee are the lowest ranked Scots outfit at 620.

Celtic have powered back above rivals Rangers in the Global Club Soccer less than 24 hours after the Ibrox club sat prettier on the stats site.

We told how Steven Gerrard's men were 14 slots above their fierce rivals in the rankings that are based on how strong the league is in each country, the projected number of goals for and against and transfer market values.

But it didn't take long for the Hoops to storm in front as they now sit 98 instead of the previous rank of 106, while Gers have plummeted dramatically from 92 on the list to 131.

Isn't it funny how their attack has increased without signing a player there (AFAIK) and yet the defence stays the same despite spending nine million on a marquee central defender.  It's all a bit of fun I suppose, but someone at that company gets paid to produce this crap.
