[FT] Rangers 2 - 0 Progrès (Aribo 20; Ojo 53)

That should have been double figures. But for that tentacle-cat in their goal, some rather strange off-side decisions and Tav trying to raze the post. Totally dominant in this still pre-season game ... and one has to be rather low on confidence to see us bowing out next week.

It ends 2-0 and missed a penalty. Other than Edmundson our defence have looked pretty poor tonight switching off at set plays not picking up their man. The players they brought on were much better and tougher than the ones they started with. I think they have goals in their side and it will be a tough job over there in the return leg. In saying that they may open up a bit and have to score three to go through. We still struggle with the issue of breaking down teams who have everyone behind the ball and play on the break. We'll need to be a lot better than that if we're going to do anything.

Good old dB forever positive.

It’s ultimately of little consequence but it’s hard to deny that was a bit disappointing. Defoe had an instant impact when he came on, it was night and day, he killed the ball every time with his first touch and then brought others into play with great creativity and pin point passing. Jones looks very sharp but he’s a carbon copy of Kent style wise, always goes for the dribble and always ultimately hoping someone gives him an excuse to go down. Having said that he’s a good impact player. Lots of positives but overall disappointing we couldn’t put more than 2 past a goalie who had several howlers on the night despite not being tested anywhere near enough.

Honestly, some gloom-mongering on here ... we totally bossed them, probably had 15odd shots on goal and more than half on those on target. But for that goalie, they would be dead and buried. They lost at home to Cork and will have to come out and try to get a goal against a team that so far has conceeded but 1 in half a dozen games, yet scored how many. Every reason to feel mildly confident.

Just out the game , at times sensational at others very  sloppy , Edmundsson fantastic Ojo a waste of space,  ok he scored but we carried him the entire game , needs to do much better all round.

The goalie is there to stop the ball going in the net. He saved a few shots that were powder puff and kept them in it. Whats more concerning is that when they had the ball and attacked us, in the second half, they cut us open with ease. Thats fine when you're 4/5-0 up as theres nothing to worry about but when its 1-0 in a Uefa game where away goals can win you the tie then you need to cut that out.

The only stat I care about is the goals for stat. Tonight we won 2-0 but we made hard work of it and could have easily lost a couple of goals ourselves. That concerns me!

Yeah, very happy with Edmundson tonight.  Did get caught wrong side once and was sloppy late on, on the other side but he had a fine game overall and has started well at Rangers.

Ojo I'm less sure about but the quality is there - it's just our job to nurture it.  I think him, Jones and Hastie are all trying just wee bit too hard to impress and need to settle down a bit.

The big positive from tonight is that we still played fairly well, didn't concede and should get the job done over there.  Still plenty of work to be done though as we rode our luck once or twice.
