As far as I am aware, and the Dutch always tell me, a perfect hat-trick is three goals in one half. So Defoe's was good but not perfect.

Having read up then it does seem that every country has it's own thing. Holland is 3 goals in one half without another scorer in between. Germany says the perfect Hat-trick is if you score the third in extra time.

Peculiar logic in a game of football. Absolutely nothing to do with the varied skills required to pull it off. Nothing but a time span.
