Ongoing issues with UEFA (two sanctions and counting)

It's great to see so many among us wishing to be so wilfully compliant with Piara Powar's completely impartial FARE organisation.

There was me thinking the punishment had come from UEFA.

What do suggest?  Caring on singing the songs and getting thrown out of Europe?

If we sing it again it’s a home game behind closed doors and a few hundred thousand pounds gone so what do you actually propose?

50,000 at an average of, say, 30 quid a ticket is 1.5 million in lost ticket revenues.  Not including, presumably, hospitality.

Its willful ignorance by those who want to continue singing.  They needn't bother telling me they love the club if they continue given they now know what their continued use of banned words and songs will result in.

We know FARE aren't impartial - but continuing to sing such songs in defiance hurts the whole of Rangers - shareholders, Board, management, players and staff.  Is it really worth it ?  Or would it be better to clean up our act and then shine the light on other behaviours that should be punished ?

This is absolutely 100% the attitude we all need to have. Do exactly this, and we will be in a far stronger position.

You wonder how quickly the SPFL and SFA lackeys will grab that lead - as they did in 2007 when UEFA forbade TBB and FTP - and come around with some strict liability hysteria ...

Be that as it may, a couple of things. We brought it upon us ourselves, as some simply couldn't stick to the rules. It creeped back when we fought our way back through the leagues, when certain songs and add-ons could clearly be heard during every other away game. For some reason, hardly anyone from the mhedia or the authorities cared a jot. And that carried on through these last two seasons as well. Various leading figures of the supporters groups have been shown the document by UEFA stating that TBB and any add-ons like FTP were forbidden. And no matter how everyone feels about it, if Rangers FC says that in their home such stuff has no place, so be it. House rules ... and that's the least of the rules that should be obeyed when entering a football ground - rules everyone agrees to when buying a ticket, BTW. How strict a club* carries out its own power is another matter.

Obviously, the Yahoos were giving it to the rest of Scotland as well, we had the blow-up dolls incident and whatnot. You almost came to the conclusion that the authorities had come to their senses and accepted it as cynical or tastless banter amongst the support of rival teams - as it mainly was ... before the green side of Glasgow's hangers on pushed their agenda and grassed us to UEFA in 2007 and onwards. For "banter" it was. Born out of Northern Irish sectarianism, sure enough, but no-one was really ever contemplating wading through other supporters' blood or indeed aiming addons like FTP at your everyday Catholic or the old chap himself, but to annoy the Hooped Horrors. In turn, we received and receive our fair dose of sectarian chanting as well. Yet - and no matter how dire, cynical or bad it was and is - it is purposefully taken out of the football supporter context and thrown at us with political, nationalistic and sectarian aims behind it.

And then there obviously is the question about the impartiality of these "informers". Have we ever seen the Hooped Horros being cited by FARE? If not, why not? They are a heinous and sectarian a bunch over at the Scumhut and yet, hardly a word.

MAYBE ... it is time for some impartial organization specifically targetting anti-British and pro-Irish sectarian behaviour and send impartial reports to UEFA, FIFA and Co.? How about being a little more pro-active here?

The above is exactly why I put a remark in that thread about Rangers being rewarded by the MoD et al earlier in the week, yet said institutions - and others - should also explicitly say a word or two about the anti-British, pro-terrorist and thus unlawful behaviour carried out at the Scumhut. And no, I do not think that is "whataboutery". It is them who act against us, who put this all in motion, who have placemen in the mhedia essentially blackmailing club and supporters, have created hollow institutions claiming impartiality yet targetting but one side. And we ... we sit there, get it in the neck for more than a decade and cry foul, but hardly act on our own.

* The Scumhut has a strict rule about no political chanting and singing and statements, mind you.

We can only hope that there are those in our support who will take heed of today’s UEFA action.

We are undoubtedly being targeted whilst other clubs with similar or worse problems seem to escape with continuous fines or nothing at all.

But UEFA needs to get its priorities sorted out. These were songs. Every week we hear of football hooliganism on continental Europe. Is it going to take another major event such as Heysel to change their focus?

A certain minority of fans are above the club, hate most things about the club and people that run the club.

But they like to set the rules for how fellow fans should think, say,  behave and vote.

They expect the club to back them come hell or high water regardless of their behavior or actions and when those actions have harmed the club.

I know it’s a minority but they seem to have the loudest voice. Not on here, but you don’t need to look far to find them.

Those of us that have the club’s best interests at heart need to be more vocal and speak up on every social network, and fan forum - to drown out the nonsense that is spouted from the faction of fans that just don’t get it.

Of course it needs done in a delicate way but we need to call them out. I’ve made a start - no likes as yet, but at least haven’t been called a f$@)&n. ?

Full stadium, say average ticket price 20 quid or so then catering and merchandise we could be looking at losing a million.

Sorry one more thing. It’s often said that there is ONE thing that all rangers fans have in common, even if nothing else, and that is the love of our great football club. Having read some comments from so-called fans over the last few hours, I’m not even sure that we have that in common. Sad
