Ongoing issues with UEFA (two sanctions and counting)

So what? It’s not Rangers’ job to deal with that and why would they when it’s over songs they’ve explicitly asked the fans to stop singing in the strongest terms for years and years and the “fans” ignore the clubs pleas

I really don’t think the club have been asking in the ‘strongest terms’ for this to stop, not the current board anyway. After the Steve Clarke incident they should have banned the UBs for a match. Giving their ringleader a megaphone & talking about moving other ST holders to accomodate their ‘safe standing’ area is not discouraging them!

However, where we were in 2011 is that TBB, FTP & songs about the vatican were no longer heard inside the stadium on European nights. We still got done by Uefa/FARE anyway for singing other loyalist songs. There is no way that we can avoid a stadium closure, and after that happens we will have to make Ibrox like most big teams European grounds where you don’t really hear actual singing. Eg at the Camp Nou, you get chants of Barca, Barca, maybe the official club song, players names, etc. Fans still cheer tackles and goals & scream for penalties and free kicks. The atmosphere is good, but not intimidating & its the same at all the super clubs in Europe. Tourist friendly. I prefer Ibrox the way it was, but this is the 21st century now & football isn’t what it used to be. Changing words in certain songs or ‘self policing’ won’t happen in reality, we either fight back or go full zero tolerance. Radical measures are needed, & I worry this board while well meaning just don’t have a handle on this issue.

From memory they actually broke off negotiations on safe standing with the UBs after that, a measure that I and almost all on this forum agreed with. The UBs took the huff and did some silent protests.

Edit: don’t know what happened to text size above

Singing!

I mean, bloody singing?

Are people really prepared to see the club damaged because they can't contain their compulsion to sing?

When it comes down to it, what the fuck does singing really have to do with football? If it's so important to you then do it in the shower, go to church, join a choir ... but don't drag the club through the mire because you feel you have to sing.

Think it would be best to drop the name-calling.

It's easily done but you'll never get your point across when calling other supporters 'moron' or 'lickspittle'.

Fair point.

But it is moronic to sing songs you know will harm the club and it is also the very definition of 'lickspittle' to do as you're told without ever questioning the reason.

If ever there was a time to stand together it is now. Since 2012 we have come a long way, but now we also need to wise up and toe the line. My worry is that 95% of fans will do that and 5% will get us shafted?

I am not too worried about Thursday night as the offending area won’t be there. We still need to create an incredible atmosphere and come together as a supporter. We are under attack again but we don’t help ourselves. We have shown when we stand together we won’t be defeated, let’s adapt to the situation and don’t give them what they want.

Question authority.

The likes of Lawwell and Powar will be rubbing their hands, with glee, today.  And they won't ever stop coming after us.

How will questioning authority keep the stands open at Ibrox? It might make you feel better but it's clearly going to sink the club.

By all means question authority but if that means defying UEFA then we're all fucked.

We know this Gonzo, the club know this and tbh everyone knows this. However, right now we need to stop the self harm, bleeding and stop doing exactly what they expect us to do.

We cant do anything to push them back while they have their foot on our throat. The only thing to do in the immediate future is back the team, cut out the sectarian shit and ride this out. The time for repercussions and balanced response will come later. Right now, at this minute, we need to get everyone to not give them an opportunity to destroy our support and damage our club again. Ffs, we are walking into their hands with this.  We must do better. It’s not ideal but it is what it is Gonzo.

We've been questioning this stuff for 15 years. It has got us nowhere.
