The one really positive thing is we won both games, but I don’t see a marked difference in tactics or style about us from last year, perhaps a little more hunger but nothing much obvious has changed.

We are undeniably different to the team that finished last season.

All of the quick passing is gone.

Watching only the highlights and having had a talk with those who saw it over on the German board ... Livingston sat deep and soaked up pressure ... while we were again unlucky with our first chances, Arfield post and Morelos two really good efforts.

They scored against the run of play, started trying to play football too, but essentially fell into the trap SG has warned us for, i.e. wanting too much when you shouldn't. Our luck returned with Tav's goal (when did he last scored a goal from open play or via a really direct free kick?), then we got what we deserved.

At the end of the day, we had these kind of games for decades, but usually block them out of memory. Getting three points in this style or these kind of games is all that matters. We can try the fabulous stuff in the big games or Europe, but at times you also have to work and graft for title winning points.

Did we under-estimate livi? They’re about fourth best team in Scotland at the moment IMO. Better than hertz & hibz.

Underestimated their manager, maybe. In fact he might be a good shout for either of those teams’ manager’s jobs, if they come up..
