Andy Mitten: I went to Ibrox to write about Rangers

Recommended Posts

Interesting read, some in-depth knowledge shared, but then you end up with stereotypical rubbish like "when Rangers were liquidated" or all the sectarian stuff later on.

You'd wish some would get his act together over this ...

Did Rangers go into administration? Most people would say yes to that because the company went into administration. Would you say to someone who says it that they are spouting "stereotypical rubbish"?

If Rangers get a bank loan do you differentiate between the club and the company?

When Rangers' accounts are produced, is it wrong to say that, or do you differentiate between Rangers the club and Rangers the company?

The company went into liquidation. It's part of our history, but it factually happened. If you want to start differentiating between the club and the company because it suits the narrative then fine but it's not unreasonable for others to do so and it's not "stereotypical rubbish".

It/we went into liquidation but that's all. it didn't mean the end of it or that we're a new club. We were still a club before 1899 when oldco was formed and we're still the same club after oldco went into liquidation and it doesn't take away from the fact that Rangers went into liquidation.

A bit of word-mongering on both parts then. Maybe it is not "stereotypical" ... yet the lad even notes that the club / assets were sold  and then feeds the trolls he talks about himself that line? Pretty poor.

Do note the tense he and you use. Rangers were not "liquidated".

Oldco has been in a liquidation process since 2012. Its assets(club, stadium, training ground etc)have been sold off and it is essentially an empty corporate shell which will eventually be wound up(unless Mr King decides to buy it for whatever reason)

Well, once you British Bears and readers can decide upon one tense for Rangers, I`ll take that on.

BTW, the line in question:

Quote

In one week in February 2015, Rangers lost to Celtic in the Scottish Cup semi-final, then lost to Raith Rovers in the Challenge Cup final. Fans recall one of the eeriest atmospheres at Ibrox with just 11,000 fans. Then Rangers lost to Hibs.

It had to change, and it did. That year, a consortium led by Dave King, who had lost £20m when Rangers were liquidated, took control. There is more trust in Rangers’s current board than at any time in the last tumultuous decade.

As said above, I know the company liquidation affair stuff and wording, we gone through that time and again. It is, in either case factually wrong, as the company is still there - even though liquidation might be a given. Yet, it is poor ammunition for the hate-brigade and could easily have been avoided. "Went into administration" springs to mind.

Likewise, IMHO, Dave King did not "lose" his 20m. The average Bear spent his weekly earnings on season tickets or at the turnstiles, to pay for players, staff and glory in that season. King had more money, saw a business opportunity to invest into his club to help it onto more glory and that was delivered on the park. And that success and glory is the payback for the season ticket holder`s investment as much as King`s. Obviously, the capitalist will disagree,
