I wish we would jail the separatists and terrorist within the nationalist movement here. They should be locked up just the same as the those causing the civil unrest in Spain. Catalunya is part of Spain. Scotland is British. Terrorist separatists should be arrested!

90% of Catalans voted for independence - 90%! Self-determination is a human right. Try telling Barca supporters they are not Catalans first. Even their language was banned under the fascists.

British Unionists seem to be getting more unhinged, paranoid and undemocratic by the day, wonder why?

Quite the reverse, i'm just tutting at the worsening performance on nearly every indicator of services provided by the SG, enjoying the mistaken belief the Nats have that the EU will allow another country in with a massive yearly deficit well above the 3% stipulated for entry, the British Government can and will refuse another referendum and i'm looking forward to the Salmond trial to see all the murky details underneath the stones as they are lifted. As i'm not currently residing in Scotland its all good.

Oh and I hope the SNP keep linking themselves with Corbyn... there is only upside for the Union there.

It does not matter. They may associate themselves as Catalan but Spain will never allow independence as their leaders start their lengthy prison sentences for sedition.

And don't think for a minute that Spain will support Scottish independence or its inclusion within the EU....it simply won't happen.

It's probably inevitable. Maybe a velvet revolution. Nobody wants to return to the days of Franco.

Alex,

You are correct, no sane Spaniard is interested in a return to the 36 years of Franco. The Catalans pursuit of independence is widely regarded by other Spaniards ie Galicians, Castlians, Andalusians, ...etc as the most wealthy part of Spain not wanting to support the poorer parts. Spanish socialists are particularly upset at the Catalans. They point out to Catalans claiming to be socialist, that supressing their socialist principles for a Catalan nationalist approach; is a National Socialist move, just like il Caudillo.

Last summer, I drove across Spain. I began in Roses, coastal Catalunya and concluded in Bilbao, coastal Basque country. In late June, Roses had barely ten per cent of bed availability taken. It's a traditional Spanish holiday resort, other Spaniards were punishing the Catalans economically. The further east I traveled, the less sympathy was to be found. Worryingly, the Basques were most in support of the actions of the Gardia Civil.

Spain is a loose coalition of warring  tribes. I would suggest reading Antony Beevor's tome on the Spanish Civil War, because like the Spanish, it's unreadable.
