it seems pretty obvious from the timing -sacking to appointment in what seemed like minutes- that Levy was in talks with JM for some time, from the start of the International Break, at least. 

 

I'm really not sure about the appointment of Mourinho.

From his recent engagements he seems to be less the Special One, more the Special Brew:

expensive, overpowering, and the cause of much discord, it inevitably leaves a really quite nasty taste in the mouth and an equally atrocious hangover, but there remain those who naively regard it as a premium brand of continuing cachet, whose purchase will, if nothing else, impress the neighbours.

Mourinho looks as if he's way behind on tactics these days. The game has moved on since he was successful.

He brought in around £259m, so an average net outflow of £20m a season isn't bad.

 

He turned the club around and got them to the CL final. Overall he did a great job, under difficult circumstances with the reduced budget due to the new stadium.

 

He did make some dodgy purchases along the way though.

Yes, I'm intrigued to see. I believe he's tried to rectify that limitation by appointing a younger coaching team. 

 

I'm also intrigued to see how he works with Levy. Mourinho likes to spend money; Levy, notoriously, does not. I think they're looking at a Director of Football too.
