Hibs 0 - 3 Rangers (Kent 4; Aribo 8; Defoe 53)

Rangers boss Steven Gerrard has heaped praise on his players for showing restrain despite being targeted by objects from the crowd.

A glass bottle was aimed at Borna Barisic as he lay injured while various other objects were aimed at the likes of Jermain Defoe as he celebrated his goal.

And Gerrard admits he has spoken to his players about remaining calm in these situations - with the incidents at Easter Road the third time in as many away games were Rangers stars have been targeted.

James Tavernier was hit with a pie at Pittodrie against Aberdeen while a hot cup of Bovril and coins were aimed at Alfredo Morelos at Fir Park in the win over Motherwell.

Gerrard insists it is for Hibs to deal with and discuss but admits he was thrilled with his own players for how they reacted to the incident.

He said: “There were bottles, lighters, all kinds of objects thrown. It’s down to Hibs to deal with that and for Jack Ross to talk about.

“I was very pleased with their behaviour throughout the game, both in terms of their performance and how they handled the occasion.”

There were also unsavoury scenes on the bench as both sets of backroom staff clashed over Ryan Porteous' red card.

Hibs assistant John Potter and Ibrox first team coach Tom Culshaw were both shown red cards as the game threatened to boil over.

And Gerrard insists the angry reaction came from the Hibs bench trying to defend Porteous' horror tackle.

He added: “I think both benches won’t be proud of seeing that back because that’s not what it’s all about, We need to control emotions better.

“It was straight red card, no doubt about that, and we were disappointed with Hibs trying to defend that and influence the referee.

“We could see from a hundred metres it was a red card and you can’t defend that.”

I think the ref had a decent game last night.  Plenty of bookings and a red card, all of which were deserved.

Be interesting to see what’s in next he ref’s report.

Do the halfwits in the Scottish media still think singing certain songs more serious than bottles being thrown into the pitch?

And it is becoming rather tedious getting apologies from hibs for their supporters behaviour every time we visit Easter Road

The old 'sticks and stones...' saying does seem to have been completely discarded by modern society.   I suspect those who support this have never had a punch in the face.

As an aside, it was very heartwarming to see the Leith tramps leave their team, in their droves, last night.
