Coronavirus and the political situation

You are nearly right; party members will soon have that right taken away when it ceases to be the Corbyn party. Not much free speech in the Boris Party either; speak out and you lose your lucrative ministerial positions. Just ask Sajid Javid.

That would be Savid Javid the son of an immigrant former Chancellor of Pakistani Muslim decent who was replaced by Rishi Sunak son of an immigrant and a Hindu of Indian decent and the Boris Johnson who you continually label a racist but whose former wife and mother of 4 of his children is of Indian descent?

Remind me again how many Asians the Labour Party have appointed to any of the Great Offices of State?

Bit difficult when you've not been in power for god knows how long. Plenty of Asians at local level in the party but, rather like footballers, none have yet risen to the top. Just like women; time Labour had a woman leader but they seem to be going for another white male as the media have told them to do. Keep your eye on a young lady called Zarah Sultana though.

Surely you want the best person for the job.  Why bring sex and skin colour into it?

That's exactly the sort of attitude that is losing Labour votes in their previously easy to win constituencies and yet many, like yourself, just don't get it...or don't want to get it.

If we are going to be consistently PC on the messageboard then admin would have changed the name of the Chinese Virus thread and use the official name once it came.  This because we are now all in this together and it´s not the time or useful to play the blame game. I didn´t mention this because it is relatively unimportant on a messageboard without huge levels of traffic.

No matter how many attempts are made to rewrite history it won't change the fact that it is indeed a Chinese Virus, how about we use the label the Chinese originally gave it the "Wuhan Virus".

She appears anti-semitic enough to carry it off!

Quote

One Jewish student who studied at Birmingham University at the same time as Ms Sultana said: “Her whole raison d’etre was that Jewish students were basically privileged white people who had no right to speak out on racism or injustices” and that she and her peers “completely overstepped the mark” when they “routinely targeted Jewish students who objected to their way of thinking.”

Ms Sultana has already been caught in controversy over her adoption of the language of antisemitic genocidal terrorist groups in advocating for “violent resistance” against Israelis; saying that she would celebrate the deaths of Tony Blair and other past and present world leaders (for which she was forced to apologise and was defended by Labour frontbencher John McDonnell); writing that “the Labour Right are scum and genuinely make me sick. Is there any form of discrimination that they won’t weaponise to politically point score like they’ve done in the past with antisemitism and now with homophobia?”; and accusing Jewish students on social media of being on the payroll of Israel’s Prime Minister.

And yet..and yet...my mate was in an induced coma in Italy after being admitted to hospital with a fever. He's now made a full recovery and swears he would have died if he had been in Britain. He lived here for 35 years.

I'm glad he survived, but it's facile to suggest he would have died here. The NHS wasn't on the verge of collapse and will not do so during this crisis. Sensible decisions have been made and protection of the most vulnerable a priority across the various specialist clinics/wards which are all functioning albeit on reduced capacity as more staff are freed into the general effort against the virus.

If you think the NHS is wholly a public entity then you would be wrong. Many private companies already work hand in hand with the NHS providing everything from specialist scanning, laboratory facilities, research, connectivity, specialist staff etc etc, and this works very effectively.

What we are going through is unprecedented and Britain's actions are no worse than any other country and our health service will meet the need.

And if you think this is just my opinion, I have 4 members of my own family as i've said before who all work in the NHS in different specialisms and have confidence in it's ability to cope, albeit with special measures in place. I have always felt that those who talk down our health service do so for political reasons without any sound evidence for comparison except baseless conjecture.

Agreed

Best person for the job, simples.

Life is now likely to have harder edges to bump into and deeper holes to fall into.

A time to judge people and things on merit for whatever is being considered instead of image.

Real leadership is in short supply and as I´ve previusly pointed out, chaos and poor leadership are a bad mix.

I find myself willing Boris Johnson to grow into it VERY quickly (and all others in similar positions) where a few weeks ago I wanted him to fall on his erse.

Writing history will come further down the line.

Now it´s about pulling together and trying to mitigate the horror and misery of that particular chapter.

It now has a different name (C19).

I've no desire to pander to the wishes of the Chinese Communist Party but carry on regardless as political correctness must transcend mere facts in your Neo-Liberal free, non-Capitalist New World Order.
