Must have fairly knocked up thousands of tower blocks since I was last there then.

Was that the time you pretended to "get lost" on the way there, and spent the night in a stewardesses apartment in Australia?

Are you sure about Peston? Evidence or a feeling?

Well, so the gossip has it. He was pictured recently with Johnson and Hancock guffawing at something. Very few journalists are sympathetic to the Left although some will play Devil's advocate. John Pilger is one genuine lefty but don't think he lives in Britain now.

You said "public safety", not the "well-being of its citizens".

The job of the government is wide-ranging.

'Public safety' and 'well-being' are wide-ranging terms and I use them interchangeably. What is demonstrably NOT the government's job is to subordinate everything to the vagaries of the market i.e. its preferred ideology.

In my opinion , the whole BBC left/right argument focuses on more old-fashioned versions of those two things.

A large section of the modern left have abandoned economic equality and are now focused on other types of equality, such as gender and race equality.  New Labour spawned it and the BBC represents it.  Any form of nationalism is viewed as pure evil and patriotism is cringe-inducing for these people (who are, with the odd exception, Remain voters), which is why they are hemorrhaging voters in their heartlands.

There is little to choose between them and centre right Tories, hence those on the left and right view the BBC with suspicion.

It's a pointless excercise.  They're all well-off pseudo-liberals and patronise us from their glorious progressive throne(s).

A dichotomy epitomised by Sir Kier on the one hand and Old Etonian Johnson on the other (the latter is not a Brexiter at heart but an opportunist). You're right about the Labour split though - identity politics is a blind alley.

Many more people can afford the insurance payments in Germany due to their higher wages. Compare that to the US where millions of people have no insurance when premiums start from abut 300$.

The NHS is not a sacred cow; it has been deliberately failed so that it becomes unworkable and is then ripe for selling off to the private sector.

Why would I want to compare Germany with the US?

The NHS is indeed a sacred cow. How else would they get away with some of their spending decisions?

Ah, gossip. That probably explains your inexplicable mistake.

Because the policy is to see it fail instead of keeping it fully owned by the public. During the crisis more contracts have been put out to tender. Some institutions are just not suitable for the free market; the care industry is a prime example for homes are in an awful state as the owners are interesested only in profits.

You really don't get it do you. The govt doesn't take NHS spending decisions. The govt takes NHS funding decisions.  Spending decisions are taken either at national NHS level or by the individual Healthcare Trusts. If you're genuinely concerned about the direction being taken in certain contracts then you need to direct your fire at the NHS. If spending policy is contributing to healthcare problems then it is NHS policy, not govt policy.

Read this over several times, try to absorb it and commit it to memory. Then the next time you want to hold up NHS problems you won't make the mistake of blaming them on govt.

The govt is committed to a national health service, free to all at the point of need. That much is abundantly clear to the point where the repetition is tedious. However, this govt, like all govts, is rightly concerned about the funding model and its contribution to eye-watering levels of waste and salaries that amount to little better than personal profiteering.

Might have been a "shite programme" from your angle but it's a very topical and worthwhile subject to focus on. I never saw it but I hope they went into how governments have treated the NHS for the last decade+ and how various warnings weren't heeded re. some kind of pandemic prep. re.stores.

This conspiracy shite that the BBC are a left wing conglomerate is laughable.

Just because they aren't biased toward the right as per a large section of the mainstream media ,...doesn't make them communist.

And Bill, the BBC were anything but favourable to Corbyn.

Establishment interests didn't want Corbyn to become PM and the BBC at the top, are all about the establishment interest. Which is nothing to do with the left.

If a Troll wants thrown a few crumbs best not go all Trumpesque and spout complete and utter bollox.

The Left wing BBC political editor got an official kick up the erse for unfair coverage of Corbyn.

BBC a left wing organisation........The right are at least trying to develop their comedic gene.

Remind us what Seamus Milne's father did for a living in order to pay for those expensive Public School fees?

Remind us too what party James Purnell was an MP for?
