What? Eh? What IS the job of government if not the well-being of its citizens? If it isn't then we might as well have anarchy.

You said "public safety", not the "well-being of its citizens".

The job of the government is wide-ranging.

The 'odious' Peston and Kuensberg are known Tory supporters lol!

The Left wing BBC political editor got an official kick up the erse for unfair coverage of Corbyn.

BBC a left wing organisation........The right are at least trying to develop their comedic gene.

In my opinion , the whole BBC left/right argument focuses on more old-fashioned versions of those two things.

A large section of the modern left have abandoned economic equality and are now focused on other types of equality, such as gender and race equality.  New Labour spawned it and the BBC represents it.  Any form of nationalism is viewed as pure evil and patriotism is cringe-inducing for these people (who are, with the odd exception, Remain voters), which is why they are hemorrhaging voters in their heartlands.

There is little to choose between them and centre right Tories, hence those on the left and right view the BBC with suspicion.

It's a pointless excercise.  They're all well-off pseudo-liberals and patronise us from their glorious progressive throne(s).

And Bill, the BBC were anything but favourable to Corbyn.

Thanks for the academic insight but I think you'll find you've jumped the gun yet again. At no time did I ever say the BBC was sympathetic to Corbyn. They mainly left that to C4.

Fair enough but I think you see Germany as the country who is confident in what they are doing and they just do it and don't pish around.

Merkel is a scientist which will have helped.

Wrt death rates

No coincidence that Germany had proportionally, by far the most intensive care beds for it's population in the developed West. IIRC about 29.5 per 100,000. UK was about 6.5, average was about 12.

You're quite right about Germany. The facts are indisputable and show up the clear advantage of a competitive insurance-based healthcare system over our centralised bureaucratic quagmire. The problem we have is having made a sacred cow of the NHS we have set in stone all it's failings, to the extent we now make a virtue of waste and inefficiency. As you say, Germany points the way with its two-tier system.

A lot of people will have a good laugh at that. After the Iberian onion, you must be the least informed person on this forum.

Many more people can afford the insurance payments in Germany due to their higher wages. Compare that to the US where millions of people have no insurance when premiums start from abut 300$.

The NHS is not a sacred cow; it has been deliberately failed so that it becomes unworkable and is then ripe for selling off to the private sector.
