I think it was 1983 when the Mens' Union at Gilmorehill voted to allow women entry to the hallowed halls? Of course, accused of hosting curry nights with lashings of misogyny. I say let the chaps continue to oil each others' buttocks and wrestle naked in front of roaring fires.

The QM had better bands.

I thought it was earlier than 1983 (I joined in 1982) but my memory is a bit hazy.

You're 100% correct about the bands.

Its a lot of pish! American stats based nonsense that tells you absolutely nothing your own eyes watching a game cant tell you!

Luckily Gerrard’s team don’t agree with you on that one

Apparently if you consume statistics you lose all ability to appreciate the visual spectacle. There I was, thinking you could do both. Silly me.

There can't be a sport on the planet where stats are a more important part of enjoying the game than cricket, which isn't at all American and where Wisdens has been churning out the numbers for over 150 years. Yet it doesn't seem to put cricket fans out of phase. Maybe football fans are just a tad less evolved.

Every argument I’ve seen against the use of stats is a straw man.

It's their job.

It wouldn’t be if it was all just a load of pish.

As I said in the OP, stats are just facts. It’s what you do with those facts that matters. But they are a valuable tool and our management and recruitment team realise that.
