Taking the knee

Recommended Posts

The gaffer spoke on thistopic in his recent interview:

https://www.itv.com/news/2021-03-09/exclusive-steven-gerrard-on-rangers-title-win-liverpool-links-and-racism-in-football

To wit:

"Gerrard also highlighted the importance of the Black Lives Matter movement and taking a knee, which has become a key feature in Scottish and English football this season.

He said a "small minority" of fans were letting down the message when it comes to anti-racism.

"It's important to everyone, especially with what's going on in the world. We will continue to give all the support we can and we will support those messages."

He added: "The hope is one day it'll be eradicated."

Is Gerrard saying that he supports this?

Taking the knee was meant as a show of solidarity for everyone to support equality and take a stand, or knee in this case, against racism. BLM however are a politically motivated movement and as such have no place in football or sport in general.

Footballers and Athletes in general are paid very well for their services and Black and Ethnic minorities have done very well in both of these sports as well as the majority of sports in the UK, surely a better way for these players to help would be to donate some of their huge salaries to helping disadvantaged youngsters instead of a meaningless gesture that is nothing more than virtue signalling nonsense which pamders to a Marxist political agenda.

What's the point in having money if any Tom, Dick or Harry can tell you how to spend it.

Surely it would be better for you to just accept that footballers have their own opinions about how to act.

The interview is not difficult to locate, and so you can listen for yourself.   There was no ambiguity to be heard from our manager's lips, with regard to the subject gisabeer put as his title for this thread.

Your post said that he "highlighted the importance of the Black Lives Matter movement" which "taking the knee" (the title of this thread) shows support for, so that suggests that he supports the #defundpolice part of it as well as other parts.

If SG does support BLM and their policies then it's his choice, no?

I would imagine he supports the anti-racism message and the aim to eradicate racism from sport and society in general (which I think we all would support).

As I said earlier I'll support our club in whatever stance they take regarding "taking the knee".

As to the wider arguement regarding the BLM movement, in my experience the far left and far right are just two cheeks of the same arse.

That's outdated terminology.  It's People Of Colour (POC) or Black, Asian and minority ethnic (BAME).

Actually I dont think it is, BAME is definitely outdated though.

Things change quickly, it's trying your best that counts.

So all the rich black players are just virtue signalling then, they are privelaged and rich and therefore took the opportunity that everyone has no matter their colour or ethnicity to become the best that they can be so what more equality do they want or need? It's not a colour issue with the UK its a societal issue.
