Staggering, Sobering Stats

Recommended Posts

This year so far, world population has increased by 25 million. That's 43 million births, 18 million deaths.

The rate of population growth has been falling for 40 years but the actual numbers of additional people on Earth goes on increasing. By 2040, estimates are for 9,200 billion people or a 17% growth from current levels - an additional 1.3 billion people to be housed, fed, fuelled, educated, cared for and employed.

Current world population is 7,861 million, a 29.3% growth over the preceding 20 years and a 311% growth over the last 100 years

In 2000 the world population was 6,080 million, a 33.1% growth over the preceding 20 years

In 1980 the world population was 4,433 million, a 46.3% growth over the preceding 20 years

In 1960 the world population was 3,031 million, a 31.4% growth over the preceding 20 years

In 1940 the world population was 2,307 million, a 20.7% growth over the preceding 20 years

In 1920 the world population was 1,912 million

Gentlemen, there's little doubt that, as a species, we are truly fucked, with solutions way beyond the abilities of Greta Thunberg of even the wondrous David Attenburgh. What do you propose is the best remedy - fewer births, more deaths, or both operating concurrently for at least the rest of this century? Prepare your grandchildren.

Well China are trying their best to reduce world population by releasing an avaian flu or virus every few years.

It's peripheral to question where, who and how much. The rather sobering bottom line is that we simply don't have the physical or social resources to cope with this for much longer and, in time honoured fashion, when you stretch a system beyond it's means to sustain itself the moment when it breaks is inevitable.
