Fuel shortages

It is 100% panic buying initiated by the msm who mistakenly or maliciously reported that the lack of HGV drivers could cause fuel shortages.

there is no shortage of drivers

HGV drivers do not transport fuel

ADR drivers do and there was no shortage of them 2 weeks ago, or a month ago or a year ago.

There is no deficiency of fuel supplies nor the logistics to deliver it.

So why has Johson granted a relaxation of visa restrictions in order to recruit 5,000 lorry drivers? By the way, I heard the Durch spokesman  for euro lorry drivers say on Radio 4 this week that conditions of employment were so unattractive here that he doubted whether any drivers would be tempted to come here temporarily.

Some have. But there's a world of difference between blaming affairs on Brexit and blaming the government for failing to properly plan well in advance for the changes anticipated post-Brexit.

What do you expect them to plan?

Any update on the quantities of fuel involved?

The stat provided above doesn't give the full picture - it would help if it provided numbers to go along with the percentages to understand what has happened.  However, there were ONS stats released a few days ago that estimated that approx 10k EU drivers left the UK following Brexit, but this was approx 20% of the total lost in the period.

Regardless, industry experts appear to be universal in their view that the driver shortage is due to a number of factors, but the main ones being Brexit, the pandemic and working conditions.   So whilst Brexit is not the sole reason, it has definitely made things worse.

If you are interested then you could scroll all the way down to the second tweet in his thread.

How would one know the proportion of E.U. drivers that left because of Brexit?

We have no alternative but to trust bodies like the ONS but there are some on here who don't believe any official statistics about anything. We can be too cynical sometimes.

Eh, because we need more HGV drivers while we wait for tens of thousands of union-delayed HGV licence applications to be processed by DVLA employees who can't be arsed getting back behind their desks and doing their duty to the country.

We all know HGV drivers have not enjoyed the pay and conditions they probably deserve but if things are so much worse here than across the EU then you might want to explain why so many EU drivers chose to work here prior to the Covid shutdowns.
