Scare-mongering about Smith untrue

Top team stars on the comeback trail.

Buffel Making Progress

THOMAS BUFFEL is making good progress and is on course to be back in top team contention in the middle of September.

The Belgian playmaker had surgery on both knees last spring but is now completely recovered and, having come through a spell of rehabilitation, is now back in training at Murray Park.

Stevie Smith and Ugo Ehiogu are also on the comeback trail and boss Walter Smith is hopeful they will be knocking on the door around the same time.

SStevie Smithmith has been troubled with a pelvic problem since the end of last year while Ehiogu has missed pre-season with a calf injury but both are on the mend.

Smith said: "We are going to take our time with Steven Smith and Thomas Buffel, although Thomas is back into training now.

"The same goes for Ugo because his injury happened in pre-season so we anticipate it will be mid-September for all of them.

"As I said, Thomas is furthest ahead and with the right progression he will be playing within three weeks or so."

Meanwhile, Lee McCulloch is expected to be available for Saturday's lunchtime clash at Kilmarnock. McCulloch had to come off last Saturday feeling the effects of a bug and has been off for the last couple of days but should be clear by the end of the week.

Smith could be back by mid-September. Although how an initial 6-week injury descended into this is anyone's guess?
