Rangers fans to be Locked Out of Celtic Park for next Old Firm game

Recommended Posts

RANGERS fans will be locked out of the Old Firm derby clash at Parkhead on January 2.

Celtic had 700 briefs cancelled at the last minute before the August 29 meeting at Ibrox.

And Hoops chiefs will now follow suit - meaning the next derby will be also played in front of home fans only.

The issue was raised at a Celtic fans' forum Q&A held last week, with various senior club officials.

Hoops' acting chief executive Michael Nicholson was among those present at the discussion.

And it was confirmed Rangers would receive no allocation after Celtic fans were locked out in August.

Ibrox chiefs made a u-turn on plans to host 700 away fans, due to uncertainty over a similar arrangement for the January 2 fixture. At that time, Celtic couldn't give a guarantee there would be a Gers allocation - due to red zone restrictions and season ticket numbers.

Rangers withdrew the Hoops allocation for Ibrox and will now get no tickets for the crucial new year derby.

SunSport understands Celtic chiefs would be open to talks over a return to a reciprocal away ticket arrangement for future Old Firm games.

But that won't change for the January 2 showdown - with the entire crowd set to be made up of home fans.

Up until three years ago, both clubs hosted around 7,000 away punters for Old Firm games.

Rangers cut Celtic's allocation to around 800 ahead of the 2018/19 season - with the Hoops doing likewise in return.

No surprise. They couldn't give us tickets after we didn't give them any. Their fans would have been in uproar.

Was that not under Government restrictions though? doesn't affect me all the same!.
