Michael Beale would of course be ideal in terms of transitioning from Gerrard but I wouldn't turn my nose up at Callum Davidson, who must now be on the radar of a lot of clubs.

I'm also wary of those that have had success in early jobs with big clubs, like Tomasson, Gio etc., because we've seen people like Frank DeBoer win titles with Ajax, but then do nothing because it's clear that it's more to do with the club than the coaching, if you know what I mean? I think they need to have a better record than that. 

I know one Scottish manager who has a recognized style of play..... and I think his tactical ability is sound.

His coaching abilities will already be well understood at Rangers, he knows the club and it's never too early for the right move. I'd say he should be on the list.

I can tell you first hand that as far as Kevin Thomson is concerned.... "Gers is THE BEST job there is" - frankly, in the same way that Gerrard has a plan to get to Liverpool, Kevin is desperate to be Rangers manager, that is his ultimate target
