Woke Taxonomy

Sadly, this the way the world seems to work these days. I suppose social media has to bear a large part of the responsiblilty for it. - it's certainly made it far easier for propagandists to load up their targets with ideology.

It's all too easy to distribute memes (in Dawkin's original sense) via twitter, or get people to mentally "upload" full-on meme complexes without cross-examining all the content. I suppose folk want to feel and appear informed - without putting the work in. As a result you end up with multitudes of people spouting the same terminology and flawed arguments all over the web - you'd almost believe they were cloned bots. We saw it during both referenda, and we're seeing it in Glasgow at the moment, for example, with the call-it-out crusade. Suddenly, certain terms, phrases and claims are bouncing about all over the place "orangism, anti-Irish racism, Catholics are the most abused group". It doesn't amtter if it's true or not, as long as enough people think it.

It's the same on both sides of the argument though - you also get folk like that Breitbart rocket that comes on here occassionally accusing people of employing "critical race theory", leftism and Climate alarmism. Whichever way you turn you're surrounded by bleating flocks of one creed or another.

Yes.  And both sides claim they're somehow uniquely better than the other for no other reason that to coddle themselves and/or to justify their own warped ideology.

That's often exactly what they are

The saddest part of all but of course there is no truth, only reason and intelligent judgement, which is why we should all be reading and listening and trying to inform ourselves of all sides of a debate, including frequently soliciting and respecting the opinion of others. Then, at the end, after due sober reflection, we naturally condemn out of hand all socialists, the weak-kneed wokists and those bastards in the SNP. 😉

I try to avoid using go-to phrases, like 'leftist', 'fascist' etc. but it is quite difficult.

Many of them are at least partially valid.  Much like racism, for instance but the terminology gets so watered down lots of the words become meaningless.

'Microaggressions' is the one that bugs me most.  As soon as someone says it, I stop listening.

I'm the same with folk who constantly bang on about "wokeism".

The term 'woke' was coined by those who see themselves as 'woke'.

It's a term I prefer to avoid, again because it is largely meaningless.
