These are the games where we will see what impact Gio will have on our game. Europe has never been a problem for our tactics and players, it remains to be seen whether Gio changes it against the trench diggers and hammerthrowers.

IMHO, we should revert to 3 at the back, make that Tavernier - Goldson - Bassey, with either sided "CH" may every now and then join the attack. Keep Kamara or Jack as the DM who pops up when and where needed. Send Kent to the left wing - with the order to track back when needed, put Patterson on the right flank - same order. Play Aribo as a 10, Arfield LM, Hagi RM ... and Sakala and Morelos up top. And no goalie. Well, okay,  its just Morelos up top then.

I agree with a back three in principle, but it can't be composed of two attacking full-backs...

wonder if Simpson will feature for GvB?

One of the strangest signings ever. Arrived with a half decent reputation but has shown very little in the few games we’ve seen him play.

Maybe a new manager will changes things for him. Or will he stick with Bassey alongside Goodson?

Nothing strange about it.

He's a left footed centre back.

His signing sent a clear signal to Edmundson about his prospects.

Is Jack Simpson the latest player with a target on his back then? I keep hearing stuff like this about Simpson, though I've no idea why. Simpson seems like a decent centre back who needs more game time and who's shown no less than Goldson or Balogun did with the same number of games under their belts. Gerrard's decision not to include him in the Europa League squad was pretty ridiculous.

If Simpson's good enough then give the lad a chance the current centre  half Goldson hasn't exactly covered himself in glory this season same with young Paterson we know what Tavernier can do so give the lad a run as well.

I'm feeling a bit strange about this game.

On the one hand, I've got the fear - but, as @ian1964 will attest, that's not unusual for me. :D

On the other hand, I'm looking forward to seeing the team play, and seeing what GvB has done with more time on the training pitch.

I'm caught between opposing emotions!
