Now we have the British prime minister telling Finland and Sweden we will help defend their borders what a joke we can’t even defend our own borders

They want to be under the deterrent blanket of a nuclear power.

Of course we can. We just won’t

Uber eats needs staffing. None of us will do it.

I wouldn't have such a problem with that if the freeloading beggars didn't also demand and receive healthcare, education, welfare, transport and all the other aspects of UK life that are now stretched thinner than a drumskin. Maybe they could find better employment in Putin's empire, I hear his army is recruiting.

This is bullish for Russia.

Due to high Russian K.I.A. (some suggest 6000 men per day) the special military operation was becoming top heavy.

The loss of high ranking individuals will rebalance things.

They are not loosing 5 or even 6k a day, and sure not any significant numbers of generals. There would be reports on the Russian side on any high ranking officers as well (after all, it is the 21st century and telegram is working finely, so hiding that is of no use). If anyone has any sort of reliable source, feel free to link it.

Finland fell nicely for the hysteria caused by the West. There are no Russians or ethnic-Russians in Finland or Sweden being killed since 2014, so Russia has no reason to go there at all. Or threaten the Fins. Obviously, your average Westener feels threatened by the sheer existence of Russia.

You seem to be suggesting that there is some sort of substantial difference between Finland and Ukraine.

This is such a dangerous and radical idea.

Are you not scared that some Churchillian inquisitor will burst in here and denounce you as a Russian asset and Kremlin sympathiser?

Ukraine - Putin On Why The War Started, Failed Attempts On Snake Island, Other Issues

Updates below (17:15 UTC)

It is Victory Day. As Ernest Hemingway said:

Anyone who loves freedom owes such a debt to the Red Army that it can never be repaid.

The most important part of Vladimir Putin's speech to the Victory Parade on the Red Square is the narrative that explains how the current war in Ukraine began. Putin is correct in seeing this as a NATO proxy war against Russia:

[D]espite all controversies in international relations, Russia has always advocated the establishment of an equal and indivisible security system which is critically needed for the entire international community.

Last December we proposed signing a treaty on security guarantees. Russia urged the West to hold an honest dialogue in search for meaningful and compromising solutions, and to take account of each other’s interests. All in vain. NATO countries did not want to heed us, which means they had totally different plans. And we saw it.

Another punitive operation in Donbass, an invasion of our historic lands, including Crimea, was openly in the making. Kiev declared that it could attain nuclear weapons. The NATO bloc launched an active military build-up on the territories adjacent to us.

Thus, an absolutely unacceptable threat to us was steadily being created right on our borders. There was every indication that a clash with neo-Nazis and Banderites backed by the United States and their minions was unavoidable.

Let me repeat, we saw the military infrastructure being built up, hundreds of foreign advisors starting work, and regular supplies of cutting-edge weaponry being delivered from NATO countries. The threat grew every day.

Russia launched a pre-emptive strike at the aggression. It was a forced, timely and the only correct decision. A decision by a sovereign, strong and independent country.

The use of 'pre-emptive strike' is somewhat misleading. In fact the Ukraine started the war on Wednesday, February 16 2022, when its forces near the Donbas republics began preparatory artillery strikes for an all out ground attack on the Donbas republics.

The February 15 report of the OSCE Special Monitoring Mission to Ukraine recorded some 41 explosions in the ceasefire areas. This increased to 76 explosions on Feb 16, 316 on Feb 17, 654 on Feb 18, 1413 on Feb 19, a total of 2026 of Feb 20 and 21 and 1484 on Feb 22.

The OSCE mission reports showed that the great majority of impact explosions of the artillery were on the separatist side of the ceasefire line.

On February 19 the Ukrainian President Zelensky announced at the Munich Security Conference that the Ukraine would ditch the Budapest memorandum and all related agreements. The Budapest memorandum is about Ukraine committing to be a non-nuclear state.

Those two issues, an imminent ground attack on Donbas and the Ukraine threatening to strive for nuclear weapons, drove the Russian decision on February 21 to recognize the Donbas republics as independent states. (The legal precedence for doing such is the 'western' recognition of Kosovo as an independent state.)

Common defense agreements between the independent states and the Russian Federation were signed. Three days later, during which the Ukrainian attacks on the Donbas republics continued, Russian troops entered the Ukraine under Article 51 of the UN charter.

None of the above applied or applies to Finland or any other country west of Moscow.

And BTW, Biden administration sent weapons to Ukraine 'well before' invasion: Pentagon press secretary

... so the US, Canada and Co. where preparing Ukraine for a war with Russia for the last 8 (as in: EIGHT) years, the proxy war that now has come to pass. They likely trained the chaps firing into Eastern Ukraine and killing scores of people, violating the deals being ironed out by Russia and various Western diplomats (as you can read above).

Regarding the officers, much of the furore comes from reports from Ukraine, seemingly as reliable as the Seville calculator. As of May 6th

U.S. Pushes Fake Stories To Goad Russia Into Escalation

The geniuses (not) at the National Security Council want to goad Russia into direct attacks on U.S. forces or interests. That would give the U.S. an excuse to further escalate the war in Ukraine into an open confrontation. It would also diverts the attention away from domestic problems.

To achieve this the NSC has pushed a number of stories to the media which claim that alleged Ukrainian successes are based on U.S. intelligence.

U.S. Intelligence Is Helping Ukraine Kill Russian Generals, Officials Say, May 4, NYT

WASHINGTON — The United States has provided intelligence about Russian units that has allowed Ukrainians to target and kill many of the Russian generals who have died in action in the Ukraine war, according to senior American officials.

Ukrainian officials said they have killed approximately 12 generals on the front lines, a number that has astonished military analysts.

The targeting help is part of a classified effort by the Biden administration to provide real-time battlefield intelligence to Ukraine. That intelligence also includes anticipated Russian troop movements gleaned from recent American assessments of Moscow’s secret battle plan for the fighting in the Donbas region of eastern Ukraine, the officials said. Officials declined to specify how many generals had been killed as a result of U.S. assistance.

The United States has focused on providing the location and other details about the Russian military’s mobile headquarters, which relocate frequently. Ukrainian officials have combined that geographic information with their own intelligence — including intercepted communications that alert the Ukrainian military to the presence of senior Russian officers — to conduct artillery strikes and other attacks that have killed Russian officers.

The story is obvious bullshit because there are only two Russian generals who have died so far during the Russian campaign in Ukraine.

Major General Andrey Sukhovetsky was killed on February 28 and Major General Vladimir Frolov was killed in early April. Both deaths were immediately officially acknowledged and reported in Russian media. Both men were buried with military honors.

All other 'killed Russian generals' are victims of the 'ghost of Kiev'.  The Ukrainian propaganda apparatus likes such stories because it knows that 'western' media will pick up on them.

Russia does not hide the death of high officers. It is impossible to do so over longer periods as such men are known by many others. It would be bad for any government to get caught in such a scheme. There is also no reason to do so.

Some U.S. sources claim that a general's death will demoralize the troops he led. The opposite is the case. Generals getting killed on or near the frontline demonstrate to frontline soldiers that they are not alone in their fighting and that their officers are doing the job while carrying the same high risk than they do.

The Pentagon denied any involvement:

The Pentagon denied Thursday that the U.S. has shared intelligence with Ukraine with the intent of targeting and killing senior Russian military leaders, stressing that the goal of U.S. intelligence is simply to allow Ukrainian forces to defend themselves against Russia's invasion.

“For thirty years, Germans lectured Ukrainians about fascism,” the American historian Timothy Snyder tweeted in late April. “When fascism actually arrived, Germans funded it, and Ukrainians died fighting it.”
