Prince Andrew & Boris Johnson

Recommended Posts

All this drip feeding of alleged Indecrepences by Boris is a bit like  a coup by the media against a British prime minister,  main protagonists the BBC could be easily dealt with by a simple and immediate scrapping of the licence fee .

I'd be a bit worried if the press wasn't telling us about politicians getting up to no good.

That seems like you might think the press is there to perform some kind of a public service, which is just about as far from the truth as it's possible to get. The press is privately owned by a handful of people who alone get to decide what's printed and for whatever purpose they choose - and be paid by us to do so. It's the same with most broadcasters. The only news outlet with any formal obligation to represent a balanced 'truth' is the BBC but that fell by the wayside long ago, being in thrall to its own ideological collective.

Which is to say the press doesn't tell us anything about politicians getting up to no good, any more than it tells us about politicians who do good things. Otherwise why would the press have spent the last month talking about nonsense like parties, curtains and dogs - and dressing it up in a veneer of pomposity about things they know nothing about, like trust and integrity - while so many other issues are intentionally ignored.

Perhaps the biggest deceit of all is the implied bullshit that there's actually a lost benchmark of holiness where politicians don't lies and feather their own nests - and only the press is fighting to drag the current incumbents back to that hallowed place. In reality, of course, what the press is trying to expose as an unacceptable aberration is actually how it's always been in all governments since the beginning of time. As I get older I find it endlessly disappointing that so many people are willing to view the press as anything but Orwellian brainwashers.

Anyone with any intelligence is aware each individual journalist and each press outlet has its own agenda/outlook, which is why it's sensible to seek information from various sources before reaching any conclusions.

I don't expect politicians to be perfect but I do expect them to adhere to rules and regulations they set for the rest of us, particularly hasty/ad-hoc ones we've recently been subjected to.  I also expect the press to report on it when they don't.

expect people in power to regard themselves differently so the fact they clearly do comes as no surprise and it would therefore be ridiculous for me to feign outrage. That's not a matter of condoning or excusing, merely recognising how things are and have always been in the real world; a world that seems to be full to the brim of relatively unimportant people expressing indignation about relatively unimportant issues - which, as we all know, is the very basis of any good soap opera but perhaps not entirely appropriate in real life. I suppose it stems from the old socialist myth that everyone should be "equal" in a "fair" world and therefore be held to the "same standards". Still, it provides the useful distraction of making people believe they have a role to play and are slightly less unimportant than they are. I can't be the only one who looks at the partygate circus and thinks the media and politicians alike are simply taking the piss.

Reminds me of you every time Jeremy Corbyn stepped out of line.

Ah, the fine aroma of whataboutery in the afternoon. But if you think about it, that was entirely different. 😁

Specifically in relation to Boris, its been ITV that has been the main source of new information on partygate.
