Burke to miss start of season

Recommended Posts

Rangers midfielder Chris Burke looks set to miss the start of the SPL season after suffering an ankle injury in training in his team's pre-season tour of South Africa.

Burke was initially ruled out of just the remaining two games of the tour, but it has since emerged the injury is a lot more serious than initially thought.

Rangers manager Paul Le Guen said he was "disappointed" as he was hoping Scotland midfielder Burke would play a vital role in the team's fortunes this coming season.

Last season's club player of the year has been desperately unlucky of late, taking a knock to the knee against Linfield last week before yesterday's injury.

But now it seems he could be out indefinitely as the Rangers medical squad wait for his ankle problem to subside before knowing the full extent of the injury.

When asked after yesterday night's 4-0 win over a Jomo Select team, Le Guen admitted it was a major blow.

"Yes it is, he will be out maybe one month to maybe 12 months," Le Guen said.

The manager explained the loss of the midfielder, who last year helped Scotland win the Kirin Cup in Japan this summer, was a major one for his team.

"We are disappointed but we will wait for him and we will try and get him back to play for us," Le Guen said.

"He was in good form, he was looking sharp. I know very well that he is important for the team but it is an unfortunate injury."

Real shame for him, hope he's not out for too long. :(

One month to 12 months

Whats that all about!!

Aye not exactly a great analyst on injuries eh? lol.

I think what he's saying is they dont know the extent of the injury yet, so he could be back soon or he could be out for a while, hopefully its not the latter.

Poor lad. He's come on so well over the last season, I really think this year could have been huge for him and he would have been a Scotland regular by the end of the season. Hopefully he'll be back in a few weeks as the team needs him!

Confirmed it isn't as serious as first thought but still misses the start of the season - and Fergie has picked up a heel injury now.....

From skysports

Rangers winger Chris Burke has been ruled out for the start of the new season.

Burke is struggling with an ankle problem he picked up during Rangers' tour of South Africa.

The Scottish international underwent a scan on the injury on Tuesday and although the injury is not serious he will miss the big SPL kick-off later this month.

Rangers are also sweating over the fitness of skipper Barry Ferguson.

Ferguson is suffering with a heel injury and he will miss this weekend's friendly with Middlesbrough.
