Walter: We'll Build A Team Around Boyd

Recommended Posts

Good news but was suprised to see him on the bench.

On night shift so only saw the result a few mins ago. Delighted, sounded like a good performance and Millers goals were class.

An odd one to drop him for JCD after his performance the other night and he was rank again yesterday.

Miller's first goal was a typical "Boyd" type poachers goals. Very suprised and impressed with the goals.

should be mendes that we are building a team around, unless we are looking to cash in?

It is becoming more and more obvious we need to sell our best players to stop the debt rocketing. The decision not to strengthen the sqaud before the Kaunus game was a ludicrous decision. What did we save on Davis? 500.000?

Saving a small amount to lose 10million is beyond belief.

That's assuming Davis would have made a difference to the result which is not conclusive.

What could have happened is that we could have spent another 500k to 1M on Davis and still lost. That could have meant buying one less player such as Edu.

Paying over the odds also sets a precedent which means other clubs will see you as soft touches. That 500k could turn into quite a few million over a summer of signings.

Then you have the problem of a team gelling etc which is not guaranteed.

Basically I think most businessmen take each deal separately and try to negotiate the best on each one. If they treat it all as interconnected and panic, in this instance the club would lose millions.

We SHOULD have been able to get through with the players we had and would have had a stronger squad for Aalborg. So why squander money needlessly?

This kind of thinking only works if you can see the future - or have the benefit of hindsight.

I disagree we should have had the players to beat Kaunus. It has been obvious for years we didn't have a midfield. Without fergie it was always going to be walking a tight-rope. Even two amateur German teams could dominate us for large periods of the game. There are no easy games any more. Luxembourg proved that against the Swiss. If you do not give your opponents the respect they deserve, then they can jump up and bite you in the bum.

the pre-season games set alarm bells ringing with most people,

if we had beaten kaunus, i wonder if we would have signed mendes.

I disagree with your disagreement Pete

That team which went and played against Kaunas was the same squad (bar Ferguson and Davis - for the most part) which dumped Werder Bremen and Fiorentina from the UEFA Cup just a few months prior and had a very good run in the CL against top sides.

You are seeing this with the benefit of hindsight. However I fully believe that the squad we had going into that game should have EASILY had enough to overcome Kaunas - I mean, Kaunas is full of players that Hearts DONT WANT because they arent good enough - so why shouldn't WS, AM and KM have felt we had enough in our squad to put them out ???

The simple truth, for me at least, is that the PLAYERS let the club down with their performances. Yes, there was mismanagement too but the players didnt perform - it really IS that simple !

is it any co-incedence, that we started to play football and win games after mendes and davis signed?
