It maybe, I haven't watched re-runs of all Barisic's miserable free-kick attempts - well in fact he rarely gets to take them these days for that reason.

I throw it back to you too Craig. it's factually incorrect that Barisic has been our best player over the last 18 months.

The suggestion he hasnt hit a free kick over the wall in 3 years is a statement of factual inaccuracy.

Me suggesting he has been one of our best players (note that I said "one of, if not the" - which is different from categorically stating he was our best player) is obviously a statement of opinion.  You can disagree, as is your prerogative - but either way, it is still just your opinion vs my opinion.

Your original statement was factually incorrect.

Gio had a great run in Europe didn't he? But he screwed up in the league and was punted. What did he get 1 yr?

Players had downed tools for Gio, that much was evident (and backed up by very good sources).  I dont think the players have downed tools on Beale yet

But Bornas a shitbag according to a very vocal section of Rangers fans.

Was away to say this too.... plenty of our supporters think he is a shitebag.  There is a vocal element who say he wasnt injured last night either... yet anyone watching the wee stramash post-game can see Borna walking off the pitch limping.....

I wouldn't surprise me because he simply hasn't been. 18 months!!! Really? He's played well at times recently (low bar) with a few decent crosses/assists, but defensively he's mostly had howlers. Last night, he did okay, but folk forget how often he gave too much room to the attacker. And he hasn't managed to get one single free kick over the wall in about 3 years.

Sorry, but I'm not buying it, and I'm not surprised there are many others who also cannot accept that Borna Barisic has been one of our best players last 18 months. That's a joke if ever I heard one. I'm not saying we have lots of contenders but Barisic is not one of them. Even here in our MOTM threads, I don't recall Barisic ever getting many votes.

To be quite honest mate, I stopped reading here - proves my point basically - because it's factually incorrect and those who don't like Borna will ignore facts to suit their agenda.

I’ve been critical of Borna for some time but he has been much better so far this year and we struggled with bakayoko when he went off. I call it how I see it good or bad. Don’t get this scapegoat stuff.

Obviously wasnt talking about you mate - but on Rangers twitter, for example, the number of people who just can't accept Borna has a) had a good game and b) been one of, if not our best, performers in the last 18 months would surprise you.

I am the same - I call a spade a spade - so Borna gets criticism from me too - but I like to consider myself balanced and will give him credit where due.

Last night he was playing well, IMO, and I think he has been comfortably one of our best performers in the league this year too (not a high bar in fairness)

Some just can't see past the howlers he has had against Celtic.

After an hour of last night's game, Bakayoko was struggling to maintain his £20 million valuation.

Then, Barisic went off injured; Sterling came on and Bakayoko's valuation gained a million quid every minute.

Sterling should claim 50% of anything Rangers claim from PSV.

Those within our support who want to make Borna the scapegoat won't be happy you said that mate.... but you would be absolutely correct of course.  Bakayoko was struggling to make an impact until Borna went off

There needs to be competition at left back ,not sure Ridvan offers too much.

Yfeko should be getting some game time there, he did quite well in pre season .

He isnt a left back though, is he ?  What about Devine, who played there a few times last season ? (fully aware that isnt his position either).  Wait... why am I even saying this - Borna has been one of our best players in the last 18 months - so long as he stays in this window, he should be our 1st choice LB, until he proves otherwise

Neither of them are top class by the way, but there's something to work with in Ridvan vs an ageing one trick Pony in Borna. That's when the manager has to stick or twist.

An AWFUL lot of work needed for a guy we allegedly paid 4-5 million for.

Aahh I can't agree sorry, purely because of the amount of shockers that Borna's had. There's been so many. Ridvans played 15 times and if he's had a howler in each of them he'd still be catching up to Borna.

And that's it, people are pointing out mistakes in a friendly. Don't get it. Dani Pacheco would've won a Balon D'or at Liverpool if his form stayed true to his pre-season outings.

Ridvan's 3 Assists in 15, which isn't actually that bad for someone who's a bit part essentially.

Are you suggesting that Borna has a howler every game he plays ?  Or just that at 15 Ridvan would be catching up - given Borna has played 125 times for us I would expect him to have mistakes at least 15 times - is only 12%.  In this pre-season alone Ridvan was at least partly at fault for 3 goals in 2 games... extrapolated that would be 187 mistakes over the same games as Borna.

Point being, trying to extrapolate these stats is night on pointless.

The point you make about pre-season makes little sense to me - you talk about Dani Pacheco playing well in pre-season when the pressure is off... whilst I am talking about Ridvan's part in 3 lost goals in pre-season - polar opposites when talking about one's good form vs another's bad form.  Could Ridvan eliminate those mistakes in competitive games because he doesnt take as many risks in those games ?  Sure.  But if you were a manager, and you witnessed a defender gifting a couple of goals in pre-season games would you really trust him in competitive games ?

2 of Ridvan's assists came against St Mirren and the other against Queen of the South.... are we just going to ignore the standard of opposition that both are getting assists against ?

Honestly, take Ridvans Rangers career and super impose 4 or 5 assisted crosses and no one would be complaining.

Ridvan's defending, IMO, is as shaky as Borna's, if not moreso - are we conveniently forgetting the parts he played in goals conceded against Olympiakos and Hoffenheim ?

Hard to do when he doesnt have 4 or 5 assisted crosses.  You can't just "add" attributes that you'd like a player to have.  Add Ashley Cole's defending to Borna's crossing assists and no one would complain ;)

I would still complain actually - in fairness to Ridvan he hasnt had much of a run - but I surely am not the only one who sees that SPFL teams would put the likes of that big Nouble up against Ridvan and then play off the inevitable knock-downs.  Ridvan, if he is to have a career at Rangers, I think needs to find it either as a left sided midfielder or a wing-back - he won't, IMO, make it as a left sided defender (though would love to be proved wrong) - he is just too small.

"Eridivisie is a top 5 league". Is this just your opinion? This is just my opinion, but off the top of my head England, Spain, Italy, Germany, Portugal, France & Russia (when included) are all much better leagues.

France dropped out of the "top 5" earlier this year

Surprised people are content with this result. It shows to me that we haven't shaken off the "can't kill off games" label yet. These guys were down a man and we practically gave up. We are one goal away from an awful result in this tie and the result should have been put to bed easily. It's a huge concern for me.

    Surely you mean two ?

One doesn't know what to believe in the transfer rumours but one report is saying a club in Saudi has prepared an offer of £259 million for the French forward Mbappe.

I wonder if we could interest them in some of our stars .

They are also paying him 200 million Euros for one season.... AND they are letting him then leave for free next summer....  Game has gone mental

Before anyone gets carried away, it's worth considering we have two weeks to get from what we've seen so far from an experimental team of newbies that hasn't won a single competitive game, to a team capable of beating the teams that finished second in the Belgian league and second in the Swiss league. We should be able to go through, it's whether (as always) the challenge comes too soon for a rebuilt squad with no experience playing together.

On Wednesday against Olympiacos, we need to start fielding something like our presumed best team and kick into touch the "minutes for everyone" approach.

I suspect that is exactly what will happen
