However, because of that, there will be pressure for this Bill to deliver results (in the short term at least). Does this mean groups like the Green Brigade with their banners of hate will finally be dealt with? No, it means daft wee 15 year old Joe Bloggs on Facebook, half-p!ssed on cheap cider as his parents neglect him will be made scapegoat.

 

This isn't a serious attempt to address an exaggerated social disease. This is paying lip service to the sensationalist media ( I can't even say tabloid here) who criticise one minute then count their pennies the next.

agreed... i have signed the online petition and am fully supportive of all efforts to challenge this piece of populist legislation...it is ill thought out and ill concieved and further demonstrates the depths the snp will plumb to cow-tow to those making the most noise about this (we know who they are) and make salmond look good in the eyes of the media....the wee pretendy parliament strikes again

I suppose, as the cliche goes, the proof is in the pudding. In this close season it seems to lack an immediate impact. The sectarian issue has dragged on and on without ever being properly dealt with and this seems like yet more skirting around the issue. If the dhims are gonna challenge being told to stop singing ira songs and threaten to go thru the courts in an effort to establish legitimacy, it seems only likely that people lifted for singing the sash or waving a RHOU would do the same. Leggo said the other day about it being a vehicle for roseanna cunningham to brandish a stick against percieved anti-catholicism, which is fair enough if the stick is used against those who sing about 'sad orange bastards' and 'huns'...and that, as i say, leads right back to my opening cliche....i cant help but feel that this is political posturing by the snp and they have hurried thru legislation so they are seen as addressing this issue and showing what a strong government they are. I think the facebook bigots will probably be more easily dealt with rather than fans at games.

Seems like a golden age now...Dalglish, Gemmell, Souness were probably the most famous...certainly Gemmell for the goal he scored against Holland which will always be remembered. Then you had the English based players who were all first picks for their teams....Bruce Rioch, captain, Don Masson, Asa Hartford, Kenny Burns, Lou Macari, Martin Buchan (who I think was the Man Utd captain at the time) Partick Thistle's Alan Rough in goal (with his dodgy perm)...trying to think without googling who the Rangers players in the squad were. Sandy Jardine, i think was one. Derek Johnstone famously was in the squad, he'd just scored 30+ goals for a treble winning Rangers team but somehow never got picked for the 3 games Scotland played. Also Willie Johnston was part of the team... a former Rangers player who was with WBA at the time...unfortunately, he failed a drug test and was sent home in disgrace which kinda summed up the whole depressing experience for Scotland.

Alas was it ever thus...the team we had looked great on paper but just couldn't deliver when it came to the games...1-1 with Iran was a particular horror story.

Really enjoyed that last night...Mark Hateley scoring against aberdeen to win the league, is one the highlights of my time as a Rangers supporter. I will never forget that day. i was in the enclosure (East - i think) and was right in line with Hateley as he out-jumped our future manager, McLeish to stick it away...what a moment!! That win set us up for 9iar and gave Walter the platform to greatness.

Once again, the old ira-not-sectarian lie is trotted out by those who have no interest in addressing bigotry but only want to make out that they are still an oppressed people in this country. Will Alex Salmond take them to task? i doubt it...

If the RC church thinks there is nothing wrong with singing ira songs then it reveals the level of collusion that exists between celtc, the RC church and irish republicanism. Their blinkered views are hopefully seen by the wider community in Scotland for what they are... divisive, antagonistic and offensive.

I'm kinda reminded of an OF game a few years back when the Rangers supporters displayed a banner with a message about how sectarianism and racism is out of order and a banner at the celtc end which said 'our truth your lies'...the irony was delicious but it kinda sums them up and joining in on an applause orchestrated by the celtc support would meet with the same response, such is their hatred...we all condemn the actions of the bomber but lets not kid ourselves that being part of the applause would be viewed with anything other than derision from the tims.

I agree that we have to box clever, as it were and if you want to join in the applause that is your prerogative. i personally feel that what happened has nothing to do with Rangers and therefore feel no compunction to be a part of it. If the bomber(s) is caught and turns out to be a Rangers fan then some form of statement from the club and a fan lead demo stating our condemnation of the act is appropriate.

I believe the vast majority of Rangers fans are decent people who get on fine with their celtc supporting friends, family, neighbours and colleagues. However, the whole applause thing, candle lit vigil etc is the actions of people who dont question lennons role in all of this and seek to portray him as the champion of an anti-bigotry cause and by extension, aim to paint the Rangers fans as the entire problem.

If this is about showing the world what the Rangers support is all about then let it be about our passion, loyalty and vocal support for our team and management...and yes, without the contentious songs that our enemy's love to hear and be offended by.

I'm sorry Gisabeer, but I disagree and certainly wont be joining in on any applause for lennon. He states on a BBC interview that this is all happening because he manages celtc...How does he know? At this point, no-one knows who sent the bomb let alone their reasons. Where's the precedence? Did this sort of thing happen with any of celtc's previous managers? I do believe the answer is no...There are youtube clips where he makes it very clear what he thinks of Rangers and, while i condemn fully the actions of the twisted individual(s) who sent the bombs, I feel no compulsion to be part of this charade...and i hope we score on the 18th minute, i really do...

There is a dangerous cult of personality gathering around lennon where the great unwashed can give vent to their paranoia, mock outrage and false sense of injustice and focus all of it around their devotion for lennon (I was reminded of the film Bob Roberts when i saw them all gathered outside parkhead hoping for a glimpse of their 'messiah')...Have any of those in attendance last night at celtc park suffered from prejudice because of their faith? I very much doubt it...can the same be said for protestant teachers trying to earn promotion in the Scottish schooling system. This perception of anti-Irish racism is a myth in modern day Scotland but it's been cleverly manipulated by the celtc fans so if you criticise them they can accuse you of bigotry. We have countless Irish themed bars, the Celtic Connections festival and plenty of successful Irish people in Scottish society...to claim bias is to peddle a lie...

And so on to Sunday, come on Rangers just do it...because if there's one thing that will be lennons undoing, it will be when he fails to deliver and they turn on themselves...the lennon diehards against the rest.

Also worth a mention here as it's definitely related to the discussion in general and also what Barry was saying, is that part of the catholic cabal's current multi-pronged campaign consists of persuading catholic Scots of Irish decent to say they are actually Irish on the census. Peter Kearney (yes the same one who helped get Dallas sacked from the SFA), the Director of Communications for the Catholic Church in Scotland and Joe Bradley, from 'Celtic-Minded' both spoke at a talk today at the 'Glasgow University Catholic Chaplaincy'. The talk was entitled "The ethnic Irish, ethnic Scots and the census of 2011: a Catholic Community in conversation asks about ticking the 'right' box?". The Celtic Supporters Association have actively been promoting this and just yesterday published an article entitled "Being Born in a Barn doesn't mean you are Horse" which invited Celtic fans to attend this so-called 'Scottish Catholic Media Office Monthly Talk'.

 

To some people this might all seem innocent, but this is all part of their cabal's wider 'sectarianism' campaign I can assure you.

Scotland = big bad sectarian country that hates catholics...suits their agenda as they claim victimhood and refuse to assimilate into the country that took their forefathers in.
